Greetings!
Recently during our Morning Assembly, I shared with our students the news that I would not be returning to The De La Salle School next year. Over the summer I will be officially retiring. That announcement was followed with a letter to our families informing them. For several years, our school’s Board of Trustees has been guided by a plan that included preparing for a smooth transition from my term as Executive Director of The De La Salle School to the person who will succeed me. I will always have a special place in my heart for the mission of The De La Salle School however, I have decided that after forty years in Catholic education, now is the time to retire. The Board of Trustees has accepted my notice of retirement, and informed the Ministry Corporation of DENA and Brother Robert Schaeffer, FSC, Provincial Visitor of my decision to retire. They are the people who oversee the work of the Brothers in the District of Eastern North America and hold canonical responsibility for our mission. The Board of Trustees nominated Mrs. Roxanna De Peña-Elder, our current Associate Executive Director, to be my successor and Brother Robert and his team have approved her nomination. Congratulations Mrs. Elder!
I know Mrs. Elder understands and believes in the Lasallian approach to education. She will continue to ensure that The De La Salle School is a place of hope and opportunity for young men and their families. She comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Before joining our mission last August, Mrs. Elder served in the Diocese of Brooklyn for twenty-five years as a Teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal and as a District Superintendent. I have assured her of my help and full support as she assumes her new duties as the Executive Director on 01 August 2023.
Mrs. Becker will be continuing her responsibilities as the Principal of The De La Salle School. We are very grateful for her tireless efforts as Principal for the last six years and we look forward to the wonderful academic programs that she will introduce moving forward. The De La Salle School, under the leadership of these two dynamic educators, is in great hands and we look forward to great things resulting from their collaboration.
With deep gratitude and a humble heart, I remain respectfully yours in the Spirit of Saint La Salle
William L. Gault
Executive Director
