Dear Center Supporter:
With a heavy heart, I write to share that I am stepping down as CEO and transitioning into an advisory role with The Center through March. Our board and staff are robust, and the organization is well-positioned for this transition, partly due to the progress and accomplishments we have made over the past two years.
I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved; from finishing construction in Palm Springs and opening our Coachella space as we emerged from the pandemic; to refreshing our brand and launching a modern website and digital presence. We've had record-breaking galas and events and introduced new programming across the valley while addressing food insecurity at a volume we did not think possible. We've also worked toward strengthening partnerships across local social-support grassroots organizations to reinforce our mutual interests. And while less exciting but no less important, we've made significant strides in professionalizing our internal operations, upgrading technology, and welcoming several staff members into key positions in which they are thriving, bringing refreshing, unique, and much-needed additional perspectives to our work.
Change can be difficult, but thoughtful planning and focusing on our shared mission and goals is what we are doing. I'm proud to work closely with the board to ensure a smooth transition and that the Center remains the premier LGBTQ organization of the Coachella Valley.
This year marks 25 years of service to the LGBTQ community for me. To conclude this service by leading The Center through a significant leadership transition and leaving it financially stronger, with a reinforced infrastructure supporting an increasing number of people with life-saving programs, I could not be more humbled.
Thank you for everything you have done to support The Center and me – It is more impactful than I can describe. None of what we have achieved would have been possible without your support. Whether you donate, volunteer, attend, participate, or find yourself with us virtually, we see and appreciate you. You are the fuel that keeps us moving ahead to meet the needs of our diverse community. Keep that support going!
And, of course, RedDress/DressRed is around the corner. Keep an eye out for our announcement about tickets next week!
With gratitude and appreciation,
Rob Wheeler
