Through centering love as a guiding principle, social work becomes a transformative force, fostering resilience and social cohesion, ultimately promoting deep, meaningful connections and collective care. Often overlooked is how leading with love is a skill set that recognizes the inherent worth of every person and seeks to create a supportive, inclusive environment that centers perspective-taking and impact, amplifies marginalized voices, and ultimately leads to a more inclusive, just and compassionate society.



Presenters:

Sharlene Kerelejza, LMSW is currently Clinical Assistant Professor and Field Liaison at Sacred Heart University School of Social Work, Sharlene (she/they) earned her BSW from University of Saint Joseph (then Saint Joseph College) and MSW from Columbia University. Her non-profit roots lay in supporting survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence and violence prevention programming for 25 years. She served as a Women’s March Organizer in CT and is dedicated to Trauma-Informed Practice across individual, family, group, community, organizational and systemic domains and creating safe spaces for the LGBTQ+ Community.

Joanne Zannoni, LICSW is the author of Drowning in Hats: How to Thrive in the Madcap Business of Nonprofit Leadership. She earned her BSW from University of Saint Joseph (then Saint Joseph College) and MSW from Boston College. A consultant and advocate, Joanne has decades of non-profit experience, including victim services, prevention education, administration, and leadership roles. Dedicated to an inclusive, equitable world, her work has included an increasing focus on social justice and social change activities.
