Rally for Senior Housing NOW:
Protect and Expand Affordable Housing for Older Adults

In 2017, over a thousand advocates came to Washington, DC, to rally and ask Congress for more funding for affordable senior housing. It was an exciting event that helped highlight the need for more affordable housing. It is time for us to gather again and tell Congress we need Senior Housing NOW!

Raise your voice with us!
West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol
Washington, DC
May 8, 1 - 2 p.m. ET

With you, the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol will come alive with our voices to support older adults and affordable housing!

The rally will bring residents, policy makers, advocates, and other stakeholders together in support of more resources to address the affordable housing needs of older adults with low incomes.

Speakers will include members of Congress, residents, and other supporters!

Make a plan for your community to join us as we fill the Capitol lawn with this simple message: Senior Housing NOW!

Please let us know if you are interested going. If we have a large enough group, we will consider coordinating transportation.

We look forward to seeing you in May!

MUNOZ END-OF-LIFE CARE BILL ADVANCES

TRENTON, N.J. - People nearing the end of their lives will have more control of their care under legislation approved today by the Assembly Health and Senior Services Committee. Assemblywoman Nancy Munoz sponsors the
bill ( S1109  /  A2144 ) allowing physician assistants to sign Practitioner Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment forms.

"End of life care is a very personal concern," said Munoz (R-Union). "These can be the some of the most difficult decisions of a patient's life."

The POLST form allows patients to state in their own words what their wishes are for end-of-life care. The form then becomes a medical order which must be followed by all providers.

The decisions include whether to attempt resuscitation, administer IV fluids, use intubation and mechanical ventilation, and provide nutrition.

Currently, the forms must be signed by a physician or advanced practice nurse to be valid. This bill expands the number of providers who may sign the form.

Munoz' bill requires physician assistants to complete two credits of continuing education on topics related to end-of-life care.

The Senate passed the bill unanimously in April, and still has to pass the full Assembly to be signed by the Governor to become law.
