Officer's Column
Isaiah 35:1-2 “Even the wilderness and desert will be glad in those days. The wasteland will rejoice and blossom with spring crocuses. Yes, there will be an abundance of flowers and singing and joy! The deserts will become as green as the mountains of Lebanon, as lovely as Mount Carmel or the plain of Sharon. There the Lord will display his glory, the splendor of our God.”

Spring is a time of anticipation and renewal. It is time when everything comes back to life and color returns to our world. The days become longer and brighter, the trees bud with leaves, and even the birds sing more. It is only fitting that our church welcomes back in-person worship during the life-affirming springtime. We’ve been holding our collective breath, waiting for this season of apartness to change. It has now arrived, and we return in hope.

In his prayer, Be with Me in My Unfolding, Ted Loder writes of spring as an unfolding and as a promise. The closing of his prayer captures the feeling of spring and our return to our church home:

It is spring, Lord
And something stirs in me,
reaching, stretching,
groping for words,
peeking through my defenses,
beckoning in my laughter,
riding on past my fears,
           pulsing in my music.
And there is the mystery
           and the smile of it.
Be with me in my reaching
so I will touch or be touched,
                       this time,
                                   by a grace, a warmth, a light,
to unfold my life to a new beginning,
                                   a fresh budding,
a spring within as well as around me.
O Lord, you have sketched the lines of spring,
Be with me in my reaching.

Dear WFPC family,

We want to thank everyone who came out to help with the spring campus clean up this past weekend. We had a great turnout, and the church campus looks great! A special thanks to Larry and Powell Roper for cutting down trees and shrubs and hauling off all the debris. Thanks also to the Boy Scouts for coming out to help.

Flowering Cross
Easter 2021
Flowering the Easter Cross has become a tradition at WFPC. You are invited again this year to bring your own fresh flowers (or even silk ones) to help decorate the cross in the front circle on Saturday, April 3. There will be a greenery base and folks may stand before the cross to place their flower(s) on it with reflection and reverence. The cross becomes beautiful, new and alive in celebration of the Resurrections of Christ. Did you know, symbolic flowering crosses can be found in Christian art as early as the sixth century?

On Easter Sunday you are invited to come by for photos. The cross will remain up until April 6.

Giving Garden at WFPC
It’s almost harvest time already! The kale, collards, and chard planted in the ground before Christmas and the lettuce and spinach planted in the table planters three weeks ago will be a welcome and nutritious addition to the packaged foods donated most frequently to our local food pantries. To maximize benefit, we harvest multiple times from each plant, taking a few outer leaves each time. Let us know if you would like to help harvest and/or deliver.

Shed users, unite! Pam recently reorganized our communal storage space. Let’s help each other keep it safe and functional! Return tools and supplies to their assigned locations, and notify Pam if you notice something needs fixing, replacing, or refilling.

COMMUNICATION/PUBLICITY VOLUNTEER: Interested in helping with Leaflets, Facebook, Instagram, e-newsletter, and/or other means of communicating about the Giving Garden? Please email or contact Pam (see below).
