Officer's Column
What are you thankful for?

When I looked up the definition of Thanksgiving here’s what I found: 1) Expression of gratitude, especially God. 2) National holiday commemorating a harvest festival celebrated by the Pilgrims in 1621. For many of us (myself included) I think we tend to focus on the latter.
Growing up our family spent every Thanksgiving with our immediate and extended family enjoying not one but two turkey dinners with “all the trimmings,” endless snacks all day long and of course those football games! So, it’s been natural for me to follow these traditions and focus mostly on the holiday and not spend enough time thinking about what I am truly thankful for.
Events the past couple of years have changed my perspective on many things, especially about the need to take time to reflect on people and experiences that I have taken for granted and be much more thankful for them. I’m so thankful for my family who has always supported and loved me and for my friends both old and new that continue to enrich my life. I’m thankful for my church and my God that is a growing part of my life. And my list goes on and on!
This time of year, life can get very busy and it seems to get busier as we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of Christmas. This year during the Thanksgiving season make a point to put the holiday on hold, even for just a few minutes, and think about the things that you are thankful for. The big things and especially the small things. If anyone asks what you are doing just tell them you are “Thanksgiving – expressing gratitude.”

Heavenly Father thank you for all the blessings you provide us each and every day. As we approach the busy holiday season, help us to slow down. Slow down so we can prayerfully reflect on the blessings we have been given and start to enjoy these blessings with a deeper appreciation of how wonderful they truly are. Father in your Holy name we pray.

Our Call to Care for Creation -- An Introductory Discussion
Wednesday, December 1, at 7 p.m. in the CLC
Caring for the earth is part of the call for all Christian disciples of every age. Are you interested in learning more about what it means to 'till and keep' creation? Come out for a special evening of presentation and conversation about how environmental caretaking is a part of our faith. We will conclude with a discussion of what steps we can take as individuals, a church, and a community to do our part.

Celebrating Kim Glasscock!
Please join the congregation of Wake Forest Presbyterian Church as we celebrate the more than twenty years of Music Ministry of Kim Glasscock on the occasion of her retirement. Before Kim and Eddie exchange their church shoes for flip flops, we will honor Kim's service on Sunday, December 12, 2021, during both the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship services.

Coffee and Cookies outside the CLC and the Narthex after each service will provide an opportunity to greet Kim, thank her, and wish her well in her next adventure.

If you would like to leave Kim a personal note, gift or memento from her time at WFPC, baskets will be located in the CLC and Narthex beginning Sunday, November 28, and delivered to Kim on December 12.
Hanging of the Greens
It’s time to hang the greens. The first day of Advent is November 28.

Sunday, November 21, following the 11:00 service, the enhancement team will offer a light lunch, eating outside of course, respecting church task force rules. After a quick lunch we will split into two groups, one for the CLC and one for the sanctuary. Pat Moore and Cathy Moss will lead the decorating in the CLC. Sandie Buda will lead in the sanctuary. We also will plan to meet the next day, Monday, November 22, 10:00 a.m. in each site to complete the decorating.

We have a few folks so far to help but the more the merrier and the faster the church campus gets decorated for the Advent Season. If you can help either or both of those days please let Pat, Cathy or Sandie know. sandiebuda@nc.rr.com, pamoore921@gmail.com, cjmoss01@twc.com

Calling all CHRISTMAS ANGELS!!
Thanksgiving week is upon us. While we are celebrating with our families and friends, and thanking God for our many blessings, let us remember those less fortunate. Wake Northern Regional Center has identified the children of 11 families for whom we have an opportunity to make Christmas special. Use this SignUpGenius link to select gifts for one or more children: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C094EAFAE292-wfpc1
Gifts can be dropped off in the WFPC narthex beginning Sunday, November 28.
Christmas angels are both the families who will provide gifts, and God's children who will receive them through our Christmas Angels Project. All of us at WFPC now have the opportunity to show our love and compassion for families who are experiencing various difficulties and are vulnerable due to their socio-economic status.
An exciting addition to this year's giving project, Pastor John will bless the donated gifts on December 12, following the 11:00 service. Everyone is invited to participate.

Community Garden
We are continuing to harvest winter crops, as needed by Wake Forest Community Meals. Our produce helps feed folks at Hope House on Mondays, Wellington Park on Tuesdays, and Olive Branch Baptist Church on Wednesdays. An average of 230 families/week, who are experiencing food insecurity, are being fed from our garden through this ministry. Join us on Saturdays to harvest and bless others.

Tri-Area Ministry
Even though our donations are greater this time of year, so is the need. With school out during the holidays, many kids don't get a lot to eat. Our supplies of spaghetti, canned black and kidney beans and size 4 or larger diapers are especially low. We will have over 700 turkeys to donate this year, so your donations will make their Thanksgiving meal. Our church donation bins are located in the Narthex closet and by the front doors to the CLC. If you would like to donate financially, please visit www.triareaministry.org and click on donate. Thanks for your continued support.
