For Friday, November 22
|WFPC Officers' Column
2 Corinthians 4:15
All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.
My time as Personnel Elder is coming to a close. I have learned so much about our church, staff and what it means to be Presbyterian. It has been a fun and, yes, challenging ride, but one that I am so glad to have taken. Our session has developed into a group of talented and dedicated elders. So many wait to be asked to serve the church; if you have interest please express it. If you are asked to serve, don't question your qualifications; rely on your faith. Just ask God for direction. It has been an amazing experience. I have gained so much insight into our church but have grown even more spiritually.
A lot of people think that Sunday services just happen on Sunday morning. As personnel elder, I can assure you that is not the case. The calendar as a whole is planned out months in advance, and then outlines for each Sunday start to take shape. Discipleship, Music and even Facilities start doing their parts. Katherine and her team, Janet and Amy, do their magic for the children and youth. The Sunday school teachers work on lessons. Kim works out music selections along with discovering some hidden talent among us. There are ushers and offertory musicians to be scheduled. Then there are rehearsals which include Sound and AV people. Then there are the things we don't ever think about. Joanne, Financial, is paying our bills and counting our offerings. Cindy, Operations, is making sure our facilities are clean and up to date and that we have heat and air. Have you seen the new floors in the CLC Classroom and preschool wing? Renee finishes up the bulletin as well as keeping everyone in line, making sure everybody has a place for meetings and study. Renee is like the proofer for all things. Then the most amazing thing to witness is when a staff member crosses over and helps elsewhere. Or the staff throws out an amazing idea that takes everything to another level. Or even when our church suffers a major lost affecting so many and the entire team goes into "we can get this done" mode. Yes, it all might look so easy on Sunday morning, but there are a lot of moving parts. We have an amazing staff that makes it happen.
So, the next time you are thanking God for your blessings. Please remember the Staff, Elders and Deacons and the countless volunteers. Think about joining in. There is a place for all. From my experience, it is an opportunity just waiting to show you how much you can grow.
Thank for the blessings of our church, staff, officers and numerous volunteers. We are grateful for the guidance that you have provided for us all. It is through you that we are able to grow and do. May you continue to fill our hearts and souls with you so that we go out and do your work. Amen
Elder for Personnel

|Holy Cow! Congregational Survey -- Your Chance to Moo!
WHAT IS IT? An online survey that will help WFPC leadership gauge the strength, vitality, and trends in our church as we plan for the future.
WHY ARE WE DOING IT?
As Christians and as a church we are always growing. This survey will give important feedback to the Session, Diaconate, Foundation For Future, and Staff as we discern where God continues to call us.
WHO WILL PARTICPATE?
Church members and active participants of WFPC.
WHEN WILL THE SURVEY BE ACTIVE?
November 24 - December 14
WHERE WILL I TAKE THE SURVEY? At home on your computer or after church on November 24, December 1 or December 8. A survey link will be sent to your email address on file with the church.
WHEN WILL WE SEE THE RESULTS?
Church leadership will receive the fully-detailed and professionally interpreted report at their January leadership retreat. The congregation will be presented a shorter summary in early February.
|Cookies, Cookies, and More Cookies
It's that time again. We need cookies, lots and lots of cookies for our
Walk Through Bethlehem
guests. If you are buying cookies, festive holiday themed cookies are great, but we'll take any cookie regardless of the flavor or decoration. Homemade cookies are also great, and we love having them, but because these lack the additives that increase shelf life, please plan to drop off homemade cookies closer to the actual dates for WTB. Cookie donations are welcome on the following dates: Wednesday, November 20, during the Advent Festival, Sunday, November 24, or Sunday, December 1 before or after either service. On these dates, look for the cookie donation location in the narthex and/or the CLC. If you need to arrange a special time to drop off your homemade cookies or treats, please contact Robin Roper at firstname.lastname@example.org or Dana Wills at email@example.com. If you wish to make a monetary donation for the purpose of purchasing cookies, cider or cocoa, please designate WTB hospitality on your check. Thank you ahead of time for any and all donations.
If you'd like to sign up to help with Walk Through Bethlehem by joining either the cast or crew, visit wakeforestpres.org/wtb.
Mission and Outreach
Save the Date and Shop to Support Hillside Christmas Angel Program
Saturday, December 14
Would you like to help share Christmas love and joy
with some of our older neighbors? Our annual Christmas program at Hillside Nursing and Rehab Home will be held on Saturday, December 14, from 11 to noon (please arrive by 10:45). It will be a fun-filled morning of singing carols with the residents and helping to hand out gifts. You may also support this mission by donating new word search books, pens, small stuffed animals, and fluffy socks. Drop off items in the donation closet adjacent to our preschool wing. Questions? Contact Dana Wills at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Giving Trees 2019
Our Giving Trees are overflowing with opportunities to share the joy of Christmas.
Choose angels to provide gifts for children in families with no other source of support, backpacks to provide weekend meals for our food-insecure elementary school children, or PCUSA ornaments to help pave a way forward for an individual or community somewhere in our hurting world. Each ornament has different instructions; please take an instruction sheet (on the table near the trees) home with you. Thank you for reaching out in love to our neighbors in need!
A Deployed WFPC Family Member
As some of you are aware, one of our members, Dustin Wilmouth,
husband of Allie, is currently deployed. Ministry2Military (M2M) would like to send him some care packages. Dustin especially wants letters and cards. He has also requested ground dark roast, unflavored coffee, sunflower seeds, spearmint gum, beef jerky, and candy. Please help us support Dustin during his deployment by dropping off any of these items in the M2M box in the CLC or narthex. Be looking at Leaflets for the next packing event announcement soon!
Habitat for Humanity: Dollar-for-Dollar Gift Matching!
An anonymous donor in our church family has graciously offered to match any funds donated to the fall 2019 Habitat build up to $5,000! We are truly thankful for this gift, and are calling on you to help make the most of this opportunity before December 31. You can give online through the church website (use the drop-down button at wfpc.breezechms.com/give/online to select "Habitat") or write a check payable to WFPC with "Habitat" on the memo line. There are three new Habitat homes being built in the Wake Forest area. The spring work date for WFPC is Saturday, March 21, 2020. Save the date and come build with us! Questions? Contact John Fawcett at email@example.com.
Don't Miss the Fun of our Next BackPack Buddy Packing Event
Our next BackPack Buddy meal packing event will be
Saturday, December 14, from 9-11 AM in the CLC room B017. This is open to all ages, families, and new volunteers. If you would like to know more about our BackPack Buddies program, please contact Heather Wheeler at firstname.lastname@example.org.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR FAMILY PROMISE - JANUARY 5-12, 2020!
Family Promise is a holistic approach to the crisis of family homelessness. Their programs address the range of issues that affect low-income families, including direct services, educational curricula, prevention programs, and more. Wake Forest Presbyterian is a part of this community-based response by providing housing, meals, and transportation to a group of families for a one-week period twice a year. Our next opportunity is coming right after the holidays, January 5-12, 2020. There are ways for everyone to help -- young and old alike, and families and groups, too! Stop by our information desk after services on Sunday, December 15, or visit wakeforestpres.org/family-promise to sign up. Contact Trish (email@example.com) or Charlene (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information.
