Hebrews 10:24-25 (New Living Translation)

24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.

25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but

encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing

Being Elder of the Day always provides a refreshing perspective of all that is going on at WFPC, and this past Sunday was no exception. Arriving early, theoretically before anyone else, I was greeted by the deacon of the day, Karla Frye and her husband Bob, who were already busy going through the checklist of tasks to be done before the service. Pastor Marguerite was also already busy in her office preparing to lead us in worship. Pastor John arrived, guitar in hand, so I knew we would be in for some good worship music. The fellowship and events deacon, Bonnie Habicht, came laden with treats to provide an atmosphere of fellowship after the service, followed by the ushers, deacons, choir members and all who

contribute to making our time together on Sunday morning worshipful and meaningful.

Our service began with Marguerite sharing through tears the news that Jamie Burwell had passed away just shortly before the service. As Robin Hendricks put it, "Jamie was the best. A man of integrity, a kind word and good deeds." The collective sadness was a reminder that we are a family that shares each other's joys and sorrows, but our confidence that Jamie is now at home with the Lord allowed us to move forward with joy into the rest of the worship service.

We had several visitors. The ones I met were a couple with a little boy who was a bit overwhelmed when I tried to bring him forward for the children's message, the precious granddaughter twins of one of our choir members, and a young couple who had been raised in our church, along with their parents, who are now preparing for marriage. We share these joyful milestones just as any family does when they gather.

All of this is to say that as we gather for worship, we are a family that shares each other's joys and sorrows, encourages each other as we use our individual gifts to serve, and rejoice together in the hope that our faith provides.

Prayer: Thank you, heavenly Father, for our church, that it is a family where we can share our tears, our joys and our praise. May we grow in knowledge as we share your word and motivate one another to serve you wholeheartedly. In Jesus

name, Amen

Worship at WFPC
Sundays at 10:00 a.m. (in-person and online)

September 4

Marguerite will continue our literature theme this week and focus on the book American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins. The book tackles the theme of "illegal immigration" from the perspective of characters fleeing Latin American countries for their lives. Our Scripture comes from Genesis 45:1-5, 13-15, and Matthew 2:13-18. Marguerite will be joined by Andre Esguerra, a native-born Colombian, as they share together a dialogue sermon entitled, "No Place Like Home."

10:00 in the Sanctuary

Our 10:00 a.m. worship service is livestreamed on our YouTube channel.

If you're joining us online, you can print an 10:00 service bulletin here.

Thanks be to God, as summer has brought vacations and rejuvenation, it has also brought our church family new excitement for children in worship, and wonderful new families looking for a beloved community with us. And our Children's Corner has been outgrown! Hallelujah! Upon entering the sanctuary this week, you will see our NEW larger children's corner, on the opposite side of the sanctuary (to your left as you enter)! Stop by, say hello to one of the kiddos, sit near by if you feel inclined to let that (not always quiet but always happy) joy spill into your worship experience on Sundays!

Congregational Meeting

September 18

We will hold a congregational meeting on September 18 after our worship service to hear a report from our Officer Nominating Team and vote on a slate of elders and deacons who will begin their terms in January 2023.
