Isaiah 30:18
Therefore the LORD waits to be gracious to you,
and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you.
For the LORD is a God of justice;
blessed are all those who wait for him.
Grace, Gratitude and Generosity.
As I think about how fortunate I am, these three “G” words come to my mind;
On the 30th August my wife, Resi, and I were blessed by the Grace of God, with the birth of our first grandchild, Isla. There have been a “few bumps” along the road but all is good now. Thanks be to God.
I wish to express my Gratitude to the backbone staff at WFPC who have stayed the course, without complaint, despite three years of a zero salary increment. One can only believe they feel a true calling to serve at WFPC. Thanks be to God.
For the Generosity of those who give their Time, Talent and Treasures to WFPC, we are to be truly thankful. However, we have significant financial challenges ahead of us to right the WFPC ship, in order to compensate the staff appropriately and provision for the repairs and maintenance of our aging facility. With God’s help we will rise to the challenge.
Lord,
We come before you with hearts full of gratitude. We are thankful for all that you have done for us, and for all the blessings you have bestowed upon us. We are grateful for your love, grace and mercy, which guide us through even the toughest times. Thank you for your presence in our lives, and for the hope and strength you give us each day. Thank you, God, for all that you are and all that you do.
Amen.

Si Seiler Mission and Outreach Golf Tournament Update |
For many years, the annual WFPC Mission and Outreach Golf Tournament has been held on a Saturday during the month of October. After a COVID break, WFPC reintroduced this annual fundraiser as the Si Seiler Mission and Outreach Golf Tournament last October, raising close to $5,000.00 for the general Mission and Outreach programs of WFPC.
As the event organizing committee of Denny Ide and Kevin Sharpe met with the Mission and Outreach Elders and John Fawcett to discuss this year's event, we came to the conclusion that a spring date may be a better option for our golf event. Historically, October is a busy month at WFPC with many fall programs in place, as well as other competing events for our church family like youth sports and college football, that we feel have been affecting the overall turnout. Try scheduling a golf tournament on a Saturday in October that doesn’t compete with an NC State, UNC, or other major college football games. It’s impossible! It’s also a busy time of year in our Giving Garden for two of our major supporters, Larry and Robin Roper, who have been graciously preparing our post golf tournament meals for many years.
So, in keeping in theme with Marguerite’s sermon “Something Old, Something New”, from this past Sunday, the team has decided to try something new, and plan for a spring golf tournament in April of 2024. The goal is to identify a specific ministry or ministries that would directly benefit from our tournament sponsorships and participants. Also, moving the tournament to a Spring event would allow for more golf course options, and hopefully more golf participants. So, stay tuned, as we plan and prepare for the Si Seiler Mission and Outreach Golf Tournament for April 2024.

Want to Know More About Being a Presbyterian and WFPC? | Been worshipping and want to know more about being a Presbyterian and Wake Forest Presbyterian Church? We are planning an exciting “Tell Me More” class for three Sunday mornings starting September 17. Join everyone downstairs off the gym in the Christian Life Center (behind the sanctuary/lobby area) for coffee and conversation at 9 a.m. At 9:20, children and youth will be dismissed to their classes and we will break out to room A-133, in the preschool/education wing. On 9/17 Rev. Marguerite will discuss the history of the Presbyterian church. She then dials it down to the New Hope Presbytery and Wake Forest Presbyterian Church. On 9/24 we will explain how the decisions are made at our church, how often the Session and Deacons meet, and what the staff roles are at our church. The last class on 10/1 will be an overview of all the great happenings and ways to participate at WFPC. There will be several Elders presenting during that class. The classes are designed to be interactive, fun and a great time to meet others interested in learning more about or joining our church. We hope to see you there. | |

WFPC Family—As you are probably aware, each year the Officer Nominating Team (ONT) seeks to identify a slate of new Officers (Elders and Deacons) to replace those that rotate off at the end of each year. This year we are working to identify a slate of Officers to fill the church’s new session structure!!!
The session reorganization plan was unanimously approved and will be implemented in January 2024 right as the next group of Officers begin their terms. The plan reduces the number of Elders on Session from 18 to 14 and reorganizes the ministry team areas into seven teams, each supported by two elders.
The seven session teams are:
● Worship,
● Finance,
● Generosity,
● Mission & Outreach,
● Facilities,
● Congregational Life, and
● Personnel.
The plan also reduces session terms from three years down to two years. Each Elder on a team will rotate on in successive years so no team will be onboarding both elders in the same year.
We are seeking to nominate five new Elders and three new Deacons this fall.
To fulfill our ONT mission and the Church’s vision for the new session structure, WE NEED YOU, the Congregation, to provide us more names of nominees, or consider submitting your own name through the nomination process.

Wake County has experienced a blood shortage since early in the pandemic. Every donation is needed and appreciated, and provides three life-saving units of product. We have been working with our partner, The Blood Connection, to eliminate wait times, have more Apheresis machines for those who prefer to double-donate, and a more streamlined process for donors. Here is the link to sign up for a donation time: https://donate.thebloodconnection.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/200390
Watch this space for the sign-up link to volunteer time and/or snacks.

Habitat for Humanity
Volunteers are needed for Home Preservation projects in Wake Forest on Saturday, September 16th and on Saturday, September 23rd. GIVING GARDEN
Thank you! It’s been a hot summer, and we want to thank all of our volunteers who worked alongside us in the heat and humidity to feed the hungry in our community. Thank you to all of our behind-the-scenes volunteers, and financial supporters!
Planting Dates: If you don’t like to bend, kneel, or squat, but love to garden, join us tomorrow, to sow carrot and beet seeds in our planter tables. We’ll also mulch new plantings, set up a bunny-proof fence, and spruce up the edible forest. Saturday, September 23, we’ll be planting 15 flats of assorted cool weather seedlings, including broccoli, cabbage, collards, cabbage collards, and mulching.
6th Annual Sweet Potato Harvest: Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 14, and invite your family, friends, and neighbors to join us for foraging and fun in the garden!
