JEANERETTE, La. (December 6, 2017) --
The Jeanerette Museum Board is pleased to announce the first history talk of the spring season, "Coming Together."
"Coming Together: Acadians, Malaguenos and Islenos," focuses on these ethnic groups joining together to live in harmony in our area. Rogers Romero, will lead this talk set for 6 p.m. on Wed., Jan. 24 at the Jeanerette Museum.
Romero will explain how each entity came to North America and Louisiana along with an explanation of the four governors who governed Louisiana prior to the American Revolution.
Discussion will include land grants received by early settlers, a discussion of the Spanish settlers who arrived in New Iberia and how different groups joined together.
Romero, a former Marine and owner of an oilfield consulting firm, followed his interests in genealogy upon retiring. He is a member of the Lafayette Genealogical Society, the Canary Island Heritage Society, and the Attakapas Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. He has received numerous awards and letters of commendations.
This history talk is being held free of charge and is suitable for an adult audience. Seating may be limited and taken on a first come, first serve basis.
