March 2021
BNHA WOmen's History Month Event in Partnership with The Peale
The theme this month is GREATNESS! Baltimore has a long history of residents that are engaged, talented and that LOVE BALTIMORE. The BNHA through many of its programs and projects this month looks to promote the very best of the City!

We will celebrate Women's History Month by focusing on the women that worked at Sparrows Point. Our virtual lecture series in partnership with The Peale will tell the unique stories of women doing very non-traditional work extremely well.

Baltimore photographers will get some love this month from the BNHA as we look to the public to help us pick our next SNAP photo contest winner. The staff of BNHA has chosen its top images and the public can now get in on the fun by casting their votes online through Friday.

As always, we are talking about the GREATNESS of our partner projects! I am so proud of our grantees that are making major moves in making sure that Baltimore's historic neighborhoods and cultural gems endure for many generations to come.

Baltimore truly is GREAT because we all work together to promote the history and legacy of CHARM CITY!

It's More Than History:
Sparrows Point's Women of Steel
In partnership with The Peale Center
for Baltimore History & Culture

FREE Virtual Event
March 19, 12:00pm (EDT)

Hear from women who shattered the glass ceiling working at Bethlehem Steel’s Sparrows Point mill, the topic of a new outdoor exhibition at the Baltimore Museum of Industry, in this one-hour Zoom discussion moderated by Michelle Stefano, from the Library of Congress. Women of Steel highlights the stories of women who worked at Bethlehem Steel’s Sparrows Point mill in Baltimore from the 1930s until the mill closed in 2012. In many cases, women endured discrimination, sexual harassment, and childcare challenges. They made choices and sacrifices as they weighed risk and rewards in search of camaraderie, respect, and a livable wage.
