Brandon Finlen, Marketing @HCCI, shares his on-the-job insights.
When I began working with HCCI this summer, my views on home-based primary care (HBPC) were nostalgic, reminiscent of a simpler time when doctors knew all their patients by first name, and visits took place in the living room with Leave It to Beaver playing in the background. Fast forward four months, and the benefits, impacts, and challenges facing the HBPC field are abundantly clear.
Home-based primary care is a proven yet often overlooked approach that improves patients' lives by enhancing outcomes and quality of life. Practitioners and providers in this field work in a challenging environment, often wearing many hats as they balance patient care, regulatory compliance, team training, recruitment, and business development — all in the same afternoon. While the challenges are numerous, the rewards are even greater. HBPC is more cost-effective than hospital visits and generally provides better outcomes, benefiting patient care while offering our strained healthcare system a much-needed solution for an aging population.
Growing a practice may not have been a focus in medical school, yet it is a critical factor in determining whether your practice thrives or struggles. Without support, knowledge, or experience, finding success can be challenging. As the saying goes, "If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together." A practitioner recently shared that organizations within the HBPC field are often more supportive in helping each other succeed compared to those in the general medical industry. To provide this support and foster community, HCCI developed the HCCIntelligence™ Community, a platform filled with resources and training dedicated to solving the unique challenges that HBPC practitioners and providers face. The Community ensures that you never have to navigate these challenges alone.
