and we're inviting you to commemorate the history and legacy of residential schools.
Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.
This federal statutory holiday was created through legislative amendments made by Parliament.
Both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day take place on September 30.
Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”. The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations.
On September 30, we encourage all Canadians to wear orange to honour the thousands of Survivors of residential schools.

Teen Advisory Group
Are you between the ages of 13 and 18 years old? Do you love your Library? Or do you need volunteer hours? Then apply to be part of our Teen Advisory Group (TAG)! We will meet the last Monday of each month virtually via Zoom and discuss Library services, programs, and materials for teens. Additionally, the group will discuss content for a Teen page on the Library's web site and social media, assist with in-Branch displays, as well as collaborate and propose ideas on how to create welcoming spaces for youth at each Library Branch! We want to inspire and encourage teens to become life-long library users!
Members of TAG earn community volunteer hours by attending meetings as well as additional opportunities such as participating in the preparation and delivering of teen programs and/or events.
Members play a valuable role for the Library and the communities within Norfolk County, and a TAG membership also looks great on resumes, job, and college/university applications.
