Solo Opera Presents The Three Feathers

Solo Opera presents, The Three Feathers, a family friendly, magical chamber opera in English with music by award winning composer, Lori Laitman, and libretto by former CA poet laureate, Dana Gioia. Based on a fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, the opera follows Princess Dora, not as a damsel in distress, but as a heroine. A magic feather leads the shy, self-doubting princess to an enchanted Underworld ruled by a giant Frog King. Here, she summons her courage and compassion to face a series of mysterious and comic adventures that change her life. Completing her quest, she saves her father’s kingdom from the plots of her selfish sisters and earns her right to the crown.

Conductor Alexander Katsman, will lead a full orchestra, a main cast/chorus of 15 adults, and 18-21 in a children’s chorus which features the San Francisco Girls Chorus (Members of San Francisco Girls Chorus School, Valérie Sainte-Agathe, Artistic Director). Artistic Director and Founder of Solo Opera, Sylvia Amorino, will direct and produce the opera with an incredible design team. Lecture by librettist, Dana Gioia, one hour before each performance.

The 85-minute show runs Sept. 8, 2023 (Friday) 8:00pm and Sept. 10, 2023 (Sunday) 2:00pm at the Lesher Center for the Arts, 1601 Civic Dr. Walnut Creek CA 94596. Tickets at the link below or by calling (925) 943-7469.  Prices range from $25-$55.

Donate your Surplus Fresh Food to White Pony Express

Local restaurants are invited to join White Pony Express (WPE) in its mission to end hunger in Contra Costa County by donating their surplus food to WPE, who operates a very active Food Rescue Program. Every day, WPE picks up about 12,000 lb. of perishable food from food outlets and then delivers it to our 90+ non-profit partner recipients, including 14 high-need school sites. All food is redistributed within 24 hours and all programs are free to our recipients. When you donate your excess food, you will also be combatting climate change by keeping food out of the dump, which creates methane gas.

If you have any perishable food products that you would like to donate, you can set up regular or one-time food rescue pick-ups by contacting Pete at peterolsen@whiteponyexpress.org.

We look forward to hearing from you!
