Flaresim Acquistion

Schlumberger announced the acquisition of Flaresim Ltd , a specialist flare simulation company and developer of Flaresim, the industry-standard software for estimation of thermal radiation from a flare system.

Flaresim will be connected to the process model within the Symmetry Process Software Platform. By bringing flare and process simulation together we can provide the only all-inclusive software package for flare system analysis in the marketplace.

Flare Radiation Analysis in the Symmetry Software Platform

The Flare Workspace has a live link to Flaresim that is already integrated. This allows users the ability to evaluate and verify the safety of the entire relief system, from relief devices through the header network and to the flare tip.

Gas Oil Ratio (GOR) - What is it?

GOR is a common property in the Oil and Gas Industry. It is a representation of one of the key variables in a process – the ratio of vapor to liquid. It is usually used to indicate the amount of associated gas that will evolve when crude oil is brought to atmospheric conditions, but it is used in other contexts as well.

Density @ 60 F Curve in Oil Source

Some laboratory analyses include a table of density values at different distillation fractions of a crude oil. If this table is added to a characterization procedure, along with the respective crude oil distillation curve, the density prediction can be significantly improved. The inclusion of these density tables is now possible in the Symmetry process software platform.

Matching Operating Performance in Membrane Separations

Membrane separation has become widely established in the process industry. For example, CO2 removal from natural gas streams with membranes has been applied since the 80s. Vendors of traditional CO2 removal technologies have also incorporated membrane-based processes.

Phase Behaviour Modelling for Fluids from Unconventional Reservoirs

One of the challenges in the modelling of unconventional reservoirs is the alteration of the Pressure, Volume and Temperature (PVT) behaviour in confinement, this alteration is mainly dictated by the size of the reservoir pores. While pore sizes are smaller, the fluid-wall interactions are increasing; as a result, the adsorbed layer of the molecules on the wall occupies a considerable volume of the pore compared to the bulk (not adsorbed) portion.
