Life Science Virginia

Dear Virginia Bio member,

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to solicit your interest in participating in phase 2 of Life Science Virginia, a workforce development initiative, which engages industry scientists with high school students to build interest in life science careers. We are just now completing phase 1 in which LifeNet Health collaborated with Landstown High School, and DCLS collaborated with Varina High School. All the participants found the experience to be rewarding and plan to continue in the fall.

Briefly, our aim is to match your business with a high school teacher(s) to design a hands-on life science activity for the students that is relevant to the curriculum, tour your facility and discuss the career journey of your scientist(s). The engagement can be as short as a week or longer if practical.

Kindly let me know if you or one or more of your scientists has interest in participating. Scientists who participated in phase 1 felt they were giving back to the community, while teachers and students were motivated to learn about real world applications in life science and career choices. Please click here for more detail on the program.

Thank you all.

The enthusiasm and curiosity displayed by the students were truly inspiring. They eagerly engaged in hands-on activities, lab experiments, and discussions, gaining a deeper understanding of the critical role life sciences play in healthcare and biotechnology….. Moreover, the impact of the Go Virginia program extends beyond the classroom. By fostering a connection between students and local industry professionals, we are cultivating a future workforce that is well-prepared and excited to contribute to the life sciences sector.” – Jean Neubauer, Vice President Biosciences Leaning Center, LifeNet Health
