12 participants successfully complete Refugee Training and Employment Program

I am pleased to announce that twelve participants of the RTEP (Refugee Training and Employment Program) have successfully completed a 9-week full-time training (Job Readiness and Job Specific training including First Aid and WHMIS certification) on May 12. We had a graduation ceremony to celebrate their achievement.

To date, 4 of the clients have started working for one employer. The other 8 clients are currently in the process of job placement.

On May 3, 2017, the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA) and Camosun College Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) program collaborated to provide free dental screening and teeth cleaning services for resettled refugee children ages 5-18 years. Read more from the blog here....

"Forgotten Corridors" refugee conference fills UVic's corridors

The 10th annual CARFMS conference took place in Victoria in May with a great turnout of about 250 delegates, quite a few of whom were international participants. At a time of globally shrinking spaces for refugees and other vulnerable migrants during an escalating crisis, Canada is widely regarded as a country that takes refugee protection seriously.  Read more.
