SESSION INFO:
The Double Rainbow: Emerging Intersectionality in Autism and LGBTQ+ Identities

Individuals who are both on the autism spectrum and identify as LGBTQ need special consideration when delivering traditional interventions. This workshop will look at the common challenges this population experiences and how professionals can adjust our services to better align to the needs of the Double Rainbow population.
Participants will engage in activities to develop more skills around changing the gender or sexuality dynamics presented in everyday life that impacts our clients, students, patients, and loved ones who are both LGBTQ and have ASD. A self-advocate who identifies with the double rainbow is one of the presenters and will be able to answer any questions attendees may have while learning different methods of supporting these individuals.
Stay connected and meet new friends this summer with the
Milestones Self-Advocate Social Group,
an online network for individuals with a formal or self-diagnosis of ASD or other disabilities.

ABA Speech Podcast with Rose Griffin and Milestones' Nathan Morgan:
Creating Environments for All Autistic Individuals to Communicate
Within the autism community, people have different ways they like to interact with other people. Some may prefer a blend of verbal and sign language, or only verbal, or some verbal but mostly some form of technology. Unfortunately verbal communication is still the communication that most people want to push, and this leads to some tension over how to encourage inclusivity when everyone may prefer a blend of communication methods.

The pandemic has been an awesome opportunity for individuals with autism to connect with others in ways that make them feel the most comfortable. Nathan approaches this with the question, “What can we take moving forward that will help us improve our community?”
Let's get ready for the school year together.
