A strange and secret world

Once a month, we screen a documentary that deals with an interesting topic. This month's film will be shown on  Thursday, April 4th from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm. It's called " Caves".

Caves are planet Earth's final frontier and this program goes where few have been before. The Cave of Swallows in Mexico is a 400-meter vertical shaft. It is deep enough to engulf the Empire State Building, yet few people even know of its existence...

Since space is limited to see this documentary, please speak to Phil to reserve a spot for yourself.

A great team!

It's hard to believe our Friends with Food program is almost coming to an end.

We have enjoyed our time with this very dedicated group of young chefs.

This month they made bulk muffins, meat loaf and healthy chicken strips!

Our chefs also had a night off and were able to enjoy a movie night with their family!

Our final activity comes next month!

Keep trying

If you smoke, you already know it's bad for you, and that quitting will improve your health and your finances. (Those grisly images on the packages and the soaring cost of cigarettes are both hard to miss, right?) But quitting isn't about trends or statistics. One of the most important parts of quitting is knowing when YOU are ready to ditch the habit for good.

Despite the decline in the number of smokers, the addiction remains the leading cause of preventable death in Canada. In fact, smoking cigarettes shortens lives by 10 years on average.

Quitting smoking is a process that takes practice. It takes more than will power; it is about finding what works for you and putting those tools to work to reach your goal of becoming smoke-free. There are services in Ottawa to help when you are ready to quit smoking.

For information on all quit smoking programs go to  MyQuit.ca  or call MyQuit at 1-877-376-1701. You can also connect with Ottawa Public Health on their Blog, Facebook and Twitter for the latest public health information.

Would you like to play?

We have a number of games to offer from Chess to Scattergories. If you're interested just let Phil know and then show up on April 9th from 11:30 am to 12:00 noon  for a quick game.

If you need computer help, this workshop's for you.

Helping you become a more effective computer user

Our computer workshop this month will be held on Wednesday, April 24th from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. In order to give participants lots of one-on-one help, only a very small number of clients can be accommodated at any one session. To make sure there's space available for you, speak to Phil to let him know you'd like to attend.
