Good for a cold winter day.

The new Canada Food Guide suggests how families can improve their health by making small changes in how they select and prepare food. Here's a quick and easy suggestion for making an excellent chicken noodle soup. Why not give it a try?

Another busy month has past...

Friends with Food is well underway on  Wednesday nights . Our young chefs are learning a lot and their confidence is growing. We have made Mac and cheese muffins, Cheesy Broccoli bites and much more!

We are excited to continue making delicious recipes and learning about food!

Plan to view our February Documentary

WILD AFRICA || Episode 2 of 6 || SAVANNAH - A BBC Documentary

Once a month, we screen a documentary that deals with an important issue of interest or concern to many. This month's film will be screened on
March 7th from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm . Called "Wild Africa", this program focuses on the African savannah.

The savannah is home to some of the greatest herds on Earth, and in this BBC program, Wild Africa brings you close encounters with these animals. The savannah is Africa's youngest landscape, shaped by the weather and the animals themselves as the continent dried. It is now home to baboons, wildebeest, lions, cheetah, and aardvarks who must struggle through the eight-month dry season to survive.

Everyone needs an up-to-date résumé.

Getting Ready to Work - Preparing your Résumé

A résumé is all about getting your foot in the door by advertising yourself - who you are and why you're the best person for the job - to a potential employer. In order to stand out from other applicants, it is important to make a great first impression on paper.

What and how should you tell employers about yourself?

To help you with this task, we've planned a resume writing workshop for you.

Thursday, March 21st from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm

To sign up for this workshop all you have to do is let Phil know you're interested.

(Childcare will be available for this workshop. Sign-up early to make sure there's space available for you.)

Lots of fun in the Playroom

Take a look at the March calendar and join us for some fun March Break activities! March 12th is Pajama movie day, March 13th is Olympic theme day and March 14th is Music Day

It will be a great week and we are so glad that Spring is just around the corner.

Don't delay. File early to get your refund as quickly as possible.

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will again offer a new, free service for the 2019 tax-filing season to help eligible individuals with low or fixed incomedo their taxes.

Called  File my Return service, eligible individuals will be able to file their income tax and benefit returns simply by giving some personal information and answering a series of short questions through an automated phone service.

File My Return is free, secure and easy to use. There are no paper forms to fill out or calculations to do.

Eligibility for File my Return: File my Return will be available for eligible individuals who have low income or a fixed income whose situations remain unchanged from year to year. Those who are eligible will receive an invitation letter in the mail in mid-February 2019.

The service is only available to eligible individuals who were sent an invitation letter. The service will verify and confirm the caller's eligibility at the beginning of the call. If the caller is not eligible, the automated call will not let them go further in the process.

Using File my Return: Eligible individuals will receive an invitation letter which will give them all the information they will need to use the automated service. Once they are ready, individuals can call the File my Return automated phone service and follow the prompts provided during the call.

If you don't qualify for this Canada Revenue Agency free service, we'd be glad to help you complete your taxes and our service is absolutely free!

Sign-up for an appointment with Phil in the Owl's Perch. Appointments are available Tuesday and Thursday afternoons during March for help completing your tax return.

You're Warmly Invited
Looking back to get ahead...

The world has changed - somewhat. Most of us no longer use digital clocks to keep track of the time and Arabic numbers have long since replaced Roman numerals in daily usage. However, although analog clocks and Roman numerals are no longer common they haven't disappeared entirely. Knowing how to read and understand both is a useful skill.

Come and join us on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 between 11:30 am and 12:00 noon and you'll learn a few tricks to help you make sense of them whenever you come across them.

Suddenly the old is new again.

You just can't be too careful.

We've decided to expand our March presentation by adding a section on decoding cursive writing.

On Tuesday, March 12, 2019 between 11:30 am and 12:00 noon, Phil will give you suggestions on how to work with cursive writing whenever you come across it. We want you to be adequately prepared.

Hope you'll consider joining in.

We have a number of games to offer from Chess to Scattergories. Don't know how to play? No problem. We'll teach you. If you're interested just let Phil know and then show up on Tuesday, March 12th   from 11:30 am to 12:00 noon  for a quick game.

Please keep us informed so that we can reach you.

Being able to reach you by phone or text message is critical for us. If you've changed your phone number - or are planning to do so in the near future - please keep us informed. Call or text your new phone number to us at 613-799-2668 or  email us  if that's more convenient.
