Learning Management System Survey
Dear Colleagues,

In November 2020, the Idaho State Board of Education selected Canvas as its Learning Management System (LMS) to support the State’s Online Idaho initiative. Institutions around the state were provided temporary access to Canvas to review the technology. This has provided Idaho State University with a window to evaluate and compare both Moodle and Canvas Learning Management Systems.

In response, Academic Affairs was asked to establish an ISU LMS Review Committee to begin evaluating Moodle and Canvas. The committee consists of faculty representatives from each college and staff from several support units. This committee is tasked to provide a recommendation by December 2022 to either maintain Moodle ISU or transition to Canvas. We want to ensure that, if we choose to migrate to Canvas as an LMS, this will not happen without appropriate preparatory time and support for faculty.

As part of the evaluation process, the committee is asking the campus community to fill out a short survey about current capabilities, needs, and considerations as the committee moves forward with the LMS review process. Please, feel free to contact any of the committee members listed below with your input to ensure it is included in the committee discussions. Please complete the survey by May 6.

No preconceived decisions have been made about the LMS. We know there are numerous factors to consider in this decision that impact many parts of the university.

With gratitude,

––Academic Affairs Team
