Learning in Action Across Halifax County Schools

Welcome to a new edition of The Beacon Bulletin, where we continue to shine a light on the meaningful work taking place across Halifax County Schools.

Success does not look the same for every student—and that is something we proudly celebrate in Halifax County Schools. Our role as educators is to create opportunities where every child can shine in their own unique way. This week, we are proud to highlight several examples of students doing just that across our district.

Hollister Elementary students recently enjoyed an unforgettable visit to Five Hearts Therapeutic Horsemanship in Raleigh. Students learned about horses, including their behaviors, nutrition, body parts, and grooming. They explored nature trails, participated in games, and completed a scavenger hunt focused on grooming tools. Experiences like these help students build confidence, curiosity, and joy in learning.

We are also proud of the incredible work taking place in our Career and Technical Education programs.  Culinary Arts students Arianna Baez, Shaniya Powell, and Cameron Sharpe recently prepared their first 40 take-out lunches. Through a full two-day preparation process, these students sharpened their skills from mise en place to final production. Their menu featured herb-roasted chicken with house-made BBQ sauce, golden fried fish topped with fresh ceviche, roasted potatoes, and sautéed garden vegetables. From planning to plating, these students demonstrated teamwork, discipline, and professional-level culinary techniques. This is what real-world learning looks like.

The arts continue to play a powerful role in student development as well. The Mighty Marching Trojan Band recently visited Enfield Middle STEAM Academy to perform for students and inspire the next generation of musicians. Students were given an important message about what it takes to become both a strong musician and a successful scholar. We are grateful for opportunities that motivate our students to pursue excellence through the arts.

Creativity was also on full display during Southeast Collegiate Prep Academy’s Women’s History Month Poetry Writing Contest. Congratulations to the winners: 1st place, Canaria Sears; 2nd place, Jemayah Staton; and 3rd place, Harmoni Bunch. These students used their voices and talents to honor the impact of women through powerful poetry.

Across Halifax County Schools, our students continue to show us what is possible when opportunity meets encouragement. Together, we continue to rise. #HalifaxRise
