A Timely Review of Contemporary Issues within MLO’s Practice
It has been said that “There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an examination, and finish with education. The whole of life, from the moment you were born to the moment you die is a process of learning.”   At McAndrews Law Offices , we take this principal to heart, and constantly engage in a variety of activities to keep our attorneys and staff on the cutting edge of the areas of our practice. We participate in seminars, conferences, review multiple periodicals, invite guest speakers to staff trainings, and constantly look for opportunities to expand and enhance our professional knowledge.
By way of example of the dozens of programs we attend every year, our CEO, Katie Ryan , recently organized a program provided by the Pennsylvania Branch of the International Dyslexia Association. Six highly respected professionals from this outstanding organization led our staff through over two hours of instruction and hands-on activities which brought home to all of us the struggles which students with learning disabilities encounter. We were required to write with our non-dominant hand, read foreign symbols to form words that were entirely unknown to us, attempt to read and write using only mirrors, and engage in other exercises which informed us very clearly of the challenges faced by students with such disabilities and their families. This excellent organization provides these programs in a variety of settings, and advocates for students with disabilities in many meaningful ways. The website for PBIDA is www.pbida.org .
Dennis McAndrews attended a comprehensive program by DMAX, an organization dedicated to suicide prevention, especially regarding adolescents, college students, and high school students. This meeting provided attendees with warning signs and statistics which supplied critical knowledge with respect to assisting individuals who are at risk of suicide, and guidance to develop support mechanisms for young persons who are at risk.
