Celebrating 80 Years of Houston Golf Association
As the parent organization of First Tee - Greater Houston, since 1946, Houston Golf Association has created opportunities for young people to grow through the game of golf. You can help continue that legacy through our 80 Bricks for 80 Years of Impact initiative.
Every commemorative brick purchased in support of the F.M. Law Park capital campaign helps provide year-round accessible programming in a safe, welcoming environment where kids can build confidence, character, and life skills that last far beyond the golf course.
When you purchase a brick, you’re honoring the past and opening doors for the next generation.

Chloe Magwe, a FTGH participant since 2021, embodies perseverance both on and off the course. On April 5, 2026, the 11-year-old made history by placing 3rd at the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals at Augusta National Golf Club – in her fourth year attempting to qualify. | | 2026 Chevron Championship Girls Golf Clinic
This year's Chevron Championship was one for the books. Our girls had the incredible opportunity to participate in a junior golf clinic hosted by LPGA*USGA Girls Golf, which works to expand access and opportunities for girls across the country to learn and love the game.
Through Girls Golf's 5 E curriculum – Empower, Enrich, Engage, Exercise, and Energize – participants developed their skills in an environment built just for them, surrounded by like-minded girls who share a passion for the sport.
And if that wasn't enough, they got a course-side view of history in the making - watching Nelly Korda claim her 3rd Major title and 2nd Chevron Championship victory!
| | | Staff Spotlight: Maya Freeman | | |
On April 24, 2026, Coach Maya served as a speaker at the Chevron Championship Career Day presented by Sodexo – a full-day experience at Memorial Park Golf Course designed to inspire the next generation of women in sports and business.
Co-hosted by Golf Channel & NBC commentator Peter Jacobsen and World Golf Hall of Fame Member Nancy Lopez, Maya joined candid conversations and roundtable discussions with collegiate athletes from Texas Southern University, Prairie View A&M University, and the University of Houston Golf and Swim/Diving Teams. Her presence was a natural fit for an event built around changing the face of the game – on and off the course.
| | | | Participant Spotlight: Elly Zhang | |
At only four years old, Elly arrived in America knowing just two words: her full name. Raised in Houston without access to tutoring or workbooks, Elly found her love of reading through early visits to the library. Now a high school student with aspirations of majoring in English, Elly is channeling that personal journey into action for others!
Inspired by the role libraries played in shaping her own love of learning, Elly founded Chapter Zero as her 2025 First Tee Innovators Forum project – a First Tee national opportunity that equips and empowers teens to develop meaningful service projects in their communities.
Through citywide book drives, she and her peers assembled family-centered literacy kits and reached hundreds of early learners across Title 1 elementary schools, hospitals, and shelters.
| Save the date for Saturday, May 23, 2026 at F.M. Law Park, 10AM-2PM for Elly's next literacy kit giveaway! | | | |
| Chapter Zero Book Drive Info | |
Supported by Save the Children Action Network, Chapter Zero is partnering with First Tee Greater Houston to give even more books a new home. Donation boxes are available at F.M. Law Park Golf Course and Gus Wortham Park Golf Course until May 23rd. We're accepting new and gently used picture books, early readers, and preteen chapter books to fill our Mini Libraries at these courses.
Every donation goes directly toward supporting early childhood literacy and increasing family book access across the city. Look for the Chapter Zero donation boxes next time you're at either of these courses, and help make a difference one book at a time!
