Leave Your Past in the Past!
In the story of the prodigal son, we see the gospel is not about our past but our future. The happiest person at the party wasn't the newly restored and forgiven son but the father. The critical, fault-finding brother missed out on the homecoming celebration of his brother because he was working hard for what the Prodigal was receiving through their father’s unconditional love. We can clearly see that legalism blinds and distorts one to the heart of God, while love reveals the heart of God and changes the heart of the one who experiences it.
Don't make the mistake the Prodigal’s elder brother made and miss the party God throws for you because of your past! Why remember what God has forgotten?
“For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more” (Hebrews 8:12).
“That is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting people’s sins against them [but canceling them]. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation [that is, restoration to favor with God]” (2 Corinthians 5:19 AMP)
“God does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities” (Psalm 103:10).
