Enhancing Quality of Life on the City's South Side
|
|
First, it was the north side of our city's turn, with the opening and growth of Seashore Waterpark. Next, major improvements to our downtown were put into motion. Now, two significant quality of life enhancement projects are underway in Abner Longley Park.
One of the projects is the Lebanon Dog Park. dog park idea was started when more than 5,000 people signed a petition to bring a dog park to Lebanon. The park is being constructed on two-thirds of an acre inside th
e former Conservation Club. The park will have separate areas for large and small dogs, as well as amenities that both residents and their canine friends will enjoy.
Water lines and electrical conduit are being installed now. We plan to open the park next Spring, or perhaps even by the end of the year! This will be the first public dog park in Boone County.
The second significant effort is the city's first ever splash pad. This more than 2,000 square-foot water feature will be added to Abner Longley Park, not far from Stokes Elementary School. A couple of weeks ago, the City Council approved the opening of the public bidding process for construction.
The water amenity will have separate sections for toddlers, teens, and the entire family. The area will also be ADA compliant. We expect an early spring opening for this great new amenity.
Each of these projects, along with Seashore Waterpark and Downtown have a centralized focus - improving quality of life in Lebanon. It is my goal that the residents love Lebanon and their neighborhood. These attractions will help create a greater sense of pride in our community for many years to come. There are great people and great neighborhoods all over Lebanon. I hope these projects will give residents more reasons to visit our neighborhoods.
