November Edition

The City of Lebanon, is located just off of I-65 in Central Indiana. Lebanon is just a short drive, from either Downtown Indianapolis, or north to Lafayette. Lebanon is also a 'one tank trip' from Chicago. Stop by and see why Lebanon has been dubbed, "The Friendly City," and why we are #LovinLebanon!

The Lebanon Rebrand - What it is, What it Isn't    Rebrand

Did you know that there are more than 40 cities, towns, or counties named "Lebanon" across the country? How do you want our city's story to be told, by the people who know it best, or by those who think they know Lebanon, Indiana?

Our city is taking steps to tell its own story, and to lay out the groundwork for our city's image that will have a positive long-term effect on our community.

The Lebanon City Council has solicited marketing firms to help us tell our story. The selected agency will be working with you, as well as other members of the public, to aid in the effort.

The biggest misconception attached to this process is, "that's a lot to pay for just a logo." While a new logo is a portion of what will be delivered, the Lebanon, Indiana rebrand will be much more. There will also be an extensive public survey and data compiled and analyzed. Lebanon, Indiana will have a branding guide, so that all future signs and structures will complement each other.

Lebanon, Indiana is currently known as "The Friendly City," it has been for many years. You will be asked: "does this motto still fit our city?" If the answer is "yes," then we will work together to spread that message more effectively. If the answer is "no," then we will work together to hone in on Lebanon's identity.

I know that change can be difficult, but I look forward to taking the journey with you.

If you have any thoughts on the rebranding process,  email me.

Planning & Zoning - New Look Sidewalks  Domes

Have you seen the new sidewalk curb ramps being installed around town?  Have you asked
yourself: what are those pads with the raised bumps?  Well, they are known as tactile detectable warnings that provide a distinctive surface pattern of truncated domes.  These detectable warnings are a requirement from the  2010 ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) Guidelines and their purpose is to alert the visually impaired of approaching streets and hazardous surface or grade changes.

The new ramps also provide a smooth transition to eliminate tripping hazards and provide accessibility for wheel chairs.
A combination of funding by the Street Department and Planning Administration has been used to install the new ramps.  In the past 2 years almost 200 curb ramps have been installed around the community.  It's a good start but there is still a long way to go.

Lebanon Street Department - Leaf Pick up, Street Improvement   CleanUP
The Lebanon Street Department started Leaf Collection on October 24, 2016. All residents will need to have their leaves raked to the curb. Leaf Machines will not be able to pick up any limbs or other debris with the leaves. Please do not put your leaves near any utility poles, vehicles or any other object that will block their ability to get to the pile of leaves.

The leaf machines will pick up your leaves on the day of your trash pickup. We will not be able to pick up any leaves if it rains.   We will not be able to pick up any limbs during leaf season and all limbs can be taken to GreenCycle for free.

We have been working on the Community Crossing Grant. We have completed 6 of the 8  streets at this time, including this stretch(picture to the right) of North Grant Street, in between  Lebanon High School, and Lebanon Middle School.

Finally, thank you Lebanon! The Lebanon Street Department has completed the Fall Clean up with Ray's Trash Service. We had more than 250 vehicles unload their trash at the Street Department!

A blog by Lebanon Senior Riley Bush

A Life of Ri Review:
Donaldson's Chocolates
RiDonaldson

Chocolate. God's greatest gift to the universe. A treat loved by billions and known by all. I am no different from those billions that so love the sweet and rich dessert. I am a chocolate lover. And I am proud.

Recently, I had the fortune of visiting a local business by the name of Donaldson's Chocolates where, not too surprisingly, they sell chocolates. Who would've guessed?! I found myself in the midst of the chocolaty heaven that is Donaldson's Chocolates just a week after their 50 th anniversary. And you know, my favorite type of anniversaries are the ones that give away free stuff to their guests, and that's what I got, a free chocolate medallion that said "Donaldson's 50 th Anniversary" (or something similar, I was too busy eating it). I was going to include a picture of the medallion, but I got too excited and ate it instead. It was amazing though.

Just to sample some of the tastes of Donaldson's, I got a quarter pound bag of chocolate and a variety pack of truffles. In my quarter pound box, I got a chocolate covered cherry, an orange peel, a salted caramel, an orange crème, and a few other things.

To start with, the truffles were amazing. The box came with about eight or so truffles of a variety of different flavors. My favorite would probably have to have been the dark chocolate truffle, but some of the more interesting ones such as marshmallow or double chocolate were also wonderful. The truffles were a little pricey, but the best things in life are seldom cheap. I believe my pack of truffles were around 12 dollars, so, like I said, a little pricey.

As for the box of chocolates, I shared that with my friends and family, and they all seemed to love it, as did I. The chocolate covered cherries were definitely the highlight of the box, but the orange peels were also pretty good, too. I got the orange crème because, at least in my experience, they don't taste that well. I wanted to see how Donaldson's version of, in my opinion, a lower-scale chocolate would taste. Donaldson's delivered. The orange crème rivaled the orange peels, which are one my favorites.

In a nutshell, I would say Donaldson's Chocolates is an awesome chocolate shop. The chocolates there are amazing.

On the Riley-o-meter, I would give it a seven out of 10. I promise you won't be disappointed!
