Another active month for the Ledyard Rotary Club!

Gales Ferry Ramp Project Provides Safe Return Home

When a resident needed a ramp to return home from rehabilitation safely, the Ledyard Rotary Club stepped in to help. Within just a few weeks, Rotarians Jeff Ansell and Terry Jones took on the project, enlisting the help of AJ Sorrell and non-Rotarian volunteers Bruce Massey, Ron Brown, and Tom Maher. Together, they assembled a sturdy ramp, allowing the homeowner to re-enter his home safely and independently.

We extend our gratitude to Habitat for Humanity and Oakley Home Access for providing the materials for this project. A heartfelt thank you to all the Rotary volunteers and community supporters who made this possible. Special thanks to Airspace Visuals, LLC for capturing this inspiring story on video! ⭐️ #HelpUsHelpOthers

DICTIONARY GIVE-A-WAY | October 16th

Did you know – Noah Webster is from Connecticut. He was born in West Hartford in 1758 and was raised in the house, which now serves as the Headquarters of the West Hartford Historical Society. Noah Webster also graduated from Yale in 1779, and in 1806, Noah Webster published his first dictionary, A Compendious Dictionary of the English Language.

For more than 20 years, the Rotary Club of Ledyard has been passing out dictionaries to third graders every October 16 in celebration of Noah Webster’s birthday. More than 150 dictionaries were given to the students at the Gallup Hill and Juliet Long, and WOW, were they excited! Some had never seen a dictionary before.

The kids were thrilled to learn how to look up words and their meanings. Then they were really thrilled to look up all the many extra’s facts at the back of the dictionary such as how large are each planet, the capital of each state, and learn the longest word in the dictionary has 45 letters and many other interesting facts.

Saturday, October 4, 2025, the Rotary sponsored the American Legion pit stop in Old Saybrook for the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation's 20th Annual Walk for a Cure. The pit stop was staffed by four Ledyard Rotarians who passed out water and snacks, keeping walkers hydrated as they completed their 26.2 mile walk. Shout out to Rotarian Ellen Swercewski for organizing (she is also on the TBBCF committee) and Jeff Ansell, AJ Sarrol & Steve Goetchius for keeping the walkers hydrated.

It's the gift giving season.
