From the Flight Deck

Our Partner in Education, Mid Florida Credit Union, is hosting a Teen Night next week, Tuesday, April 22nd. Students will be treated to pizza, games, and financial advice. If you’re interested, Mid Florida Credit Union will also extend free student checking with no minimum balance. I’m specifically highlighting this event because it foreshadows the course heading that Legacy will be moving towards. Over the last two years, we’ve brought new programs and initiatives to Legacy to determine student and family interest as well as program viability and sustainability. Two years ago, we started off with one Cambridge International course, Global Perspectives, and this year we offer numerous course offerings that our students enjoy! This year, we started a unique course stacking of esports and personal finance. In the 2025-26 school year, we are offering esports and personal finance for all three grade levels!

Just imagine…

Your pre-teen comes home able to discuss debits, credits, investing, and entrepreneurship with you. At what age did you learn about these life skills? At Legacy Middle School, our students will gain introductory exposure to these, and other relevant topics. If your child is interested in this unique course offering not available anywhere else in the state of Florida, or if you know of parent looking for a steady and positive learning environment for their child, please let us know.

The Little Mermaid Jr. opens Wednesday

This week our theater students will be presenting their performance of The Little Mermaid Jr. Come out to see their amazing talent! Ms. Haynes, our school librarian, is partnering with the Orange County Library to bring in some poetry activities for our ELA classes on Friday, April 18th and Monday, April 21st to celebrate Poetry Month.

Quarter 4 Progress Reports

Progress Reports will be posted online this week to Skyward. This is the home stretch. Please encourage your child to participate actively in class, be on time at school, and make positive choices to finish out the year strong. Testing will be here in a few weeks, and we want everyone to be prepared.

2025 Family Survey runs through Tuesday

The last day for the two-question Family Survey is Tuesday, April 15. We depend upon this once per year survey for feedback on school improvement. It consists of only two multiple choice questions and one open-ended question where you may write out your thoughts on school improvement and general operations. If you have a child attending Legacy and have not taken the survey, please do so by midnight Tuesday. Thank you very much for your help.

Thank you for reading.

Instructional Highlight

Test Prep

During lunches starting last week, students participated in Kahoot/Quizziz reviews of standards in our tested areas. This is an additional review opportunity for students to prepare for the upcoming End of the Year Assessments. Students on the ‘leader board’ will win a prize.

Sixth graders were really focused on the review last Wednesday!

Dance Program Update

Dance students learn with the Orlando Ballet

Dance 3 Legacy students participated in Orlando Ballet's Rise program. On Sunday, April 6 they had a full day of dance class, rehearsal, peer mentorship, and performance. Mrs. Henry is so proud of all the hard work and dedication they put forth.

Additionally, Aaron Manuel and Connor Stevens got scouted during this day of dance for Orlando Ballet’s Summer Dance Intensive, no audition required! What an honor and life lesson that no matter what you do, do it with all your best because you never know who is watching!

Important Messages about Early Pick Up and Parking

Early Pick Up

Parents, we have an important request. For this last quarter please refrain from pulling out your child early from school. We have recently had a number of students being checked out early and it is putting a strain on our ability to help your child reach their full potential. We are preparing your 8th graders for high school and 6th and 7th grade students for the next grade level. Your assistance with rearranging your schedules to encourage full days of attendance is much appreciated and will help ensure your child’s success as they move forward.

Arrival and Dismissal Parking

All parents need to pick up and drop off their children in front of the school in the car loop unless we are aware of special considerations, like a necessity for ADA accommodations. Please do not wait in the side parking lot adjacent to the bike rack. This is not an authorized pick up or drop off location as we do not have supervision in this area.

2025-2026 SSYRA Book List Announced!

The 2025-2026 Sunshine State Young Readers Award book list has been announced! We hope everyone reads at least one book from the 15 book list next school year. In May, we will be announcing our Summer Reading Competition and the SSYRA books will be included. We will also be purchasing all of the titles for our school library. If you have any feedback on the books, please reach out to Ms. Haynes, our school librarian.
