This past week our 6th graders had the opportunity to attend two field trips. I also had the opportunity to attend the 6th and Jazz field trip. This interactive show taught our students about such Jazz greats as Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald. Seeing our students create Jazz music themselves during the show was a fun experience.
I received lots of photos throughout the day on Friday during the SeaWorld trip on Friday. I have included some in this week’s edition. I was happy to see our students having a great time learning and experiencing one of Orlando’s theme parks. Our students did a great job representing Legacy on both field trips this week. This week our 7th graders will have the opportunity to attend the field trip to the first Biology Day being held at Busch Gardens. I am excited to see what our students learn this week.
This week will also begin our next round of PMA testing on campus. PMAs are "Progress Monitoring Activities" in some of our state tested courses to see our students' growth and preparation for the state test in May. The PMAs for quarter three are cumulative and cover everything learned this year so far by our students. The tests will be 50 multiple choice questions for most of the tests and will be administered to students in classes over two days. Below are the tests and days students will be testing. Please check with your students and see if they are studying and preparing for the tests.

THIS THURSDAY! Spring Dance
Theme: Overcoming Adversity
The Spring Dance showcase entitled Overcoming Adversity will be held on Thursday, March 2nd at 6:15 pm. All are welcome. Ticket links are located on posters all over campus and can also be purchased at the door. For the dancers there will be a dress rehearsal March 1st after school until 5:45 pm.
Tickets to the prestigious dance gala are located below and will be hosted by our feeder University HS. Please join us in celebrating the hard work both I and my dancers have created in the beginning of the school year. Due to Hurricane Ian this event has been posted to March 9th at 7 pm. The dancers were adjudicated in January with 10 etudes that consisted of ballet, modern, and jazz combinations that they had to execute in front of a pristine panel of judges. Legacy received the most heartfelt and positive feedback. We were told that we have such passionate and well trained dancers that pay attention to detail. I am beyond proud of the dance family that I have at Legacy!

Thursday, March 2 is Read Across America Day
Dr. Seuss's Birthday is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on March 2 — Dr. Seuss's birthday. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, and books. This week we spotlight Dr. Seuss, an old friend to many of our Jets!

Green Eggs and Ham, Anyone?
Theodor Seuss Geisel — Dr. Seuss of children's book fame — is loved by many readers for his storytelling. Today, no children's author/illustrator's work is more immediately recognizable worldwide than that of Dr. Seuss. His most popular book, "Green Eggs and Ham," has sold 8 million copies since 1960.
While most of our Legacy families have heard of Dr. Seuss, many probably do not know that he struggled with success early on. In fact, his first children's book, "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street," was rejected 27 times before its publication in 1937 by Vanguard Press. It actually took many years for Theodor Seuss Geisel to reach fame, but he was fiercely persistent. He never quit on his goals.
Fun Fact: One of Geisel's writing tricks was that his books were deceptively simple. His "Green Eggs and Ham" contains only 50 words, a challenge thrown to the author by his editor at the time.
Dr. Seuss' lessons for our Jets:
- Success comes through gritty perseverance. You must never give up.
- Practice self-discipline at all times.
- Whatever you are doing, have fun with it. Channel all thoughts about school or your work as something you "get to do" vs. something you "have to do."
- Be humble and whenever possible, share the credit.
