Congratulations to our Boys Basketball Team for their impressive 5-0 record and clinching the Cluster Championships!
We're thrilled to announce the launch of Saturday School, designed for personalized, small-group instruction tailored to your child's educational needs. Our focus isn’t on grades, our focus is on assisting students with mastering critical content. it’s an opportunity to significantly boost students’ academic performance, confidence, and love for learning.
There will only be six sessions of Saturday School, and The first session kicks off this Saturday, February 22nd! If you've received a Connect Orange message from me about this opportunity, please respond to the form you received to secure your child's spot in our Saturday School program.
I will be sending out two more Connect Orange messages this week regarding this initiative. We need your feedback to help us for planning purposes. Let's give your child the extra support they need to thrive. Don't miss out on this chance to make a positive impact on your child's educational journey!

Parents, you have just a few short years left with your children. Take the time to make memories with your child, and chaperone your child’s upcoming field trips. We have to maintain a 10:1 student to adult ratio for field trips per district guidelines. Your support allows us to maintain a safe working and learning environment. Become an 2024-25 ADDitions Volunteer with Legacy Middle School on the OCPS ADDitions Website. If you have any questions about a field trip, contact your child’s teacher.

"Fly like Bessie"
Bessie Coleman was the first African American and Native American woman to earn a pilot's license, overcoming racial and gender barriers in the early 20th century. Denied entry to U.S. flight schools, she traveled to France in 1921 to earn her aviation license. She became a famous stunt pilot, inspiring future generations with her daring aerial performances and advocacy for Black aviators. Coleman's legacy continues to motivate aspiring pilots and those fighting for equality in aviation.

Food for Thought: Week of Feb. 17, 2025
1) Did you know that Legacy is the first Florida middle school to offer personal finance? Here is an example of a personal finance topic related to household budgeting using Bank of America data—average monthly car payments:
| | |
Source: Bank of America Institute
Legacy Middle community footnote: The distribution of auto loan payments per month has shifted much higher in only a five years. Around 43% of households with Bank of America from November 2024-January 2025 had a monthly auto payment of $500 to $1,000 per month, up sharply from 32% in November 2019-January 2020 and up from 40% in November 2023-January 2024. Also, nearly a fifth of households had a payment of more than $1,000 a month, up 11% and 18% over the same periods in 2020 and 2024.
| | |
2) As this is Black History Month, we continue with additional success stories using the latest available data. The number of activity duty Black or African Americans serving in the armed forces numbers nearly 225,000 or 17.6% of total:
3) In-person social time by (minutes per day):
