From the Flight Deck

Dear Mark,

Thank you to our families who attended our Open House last week. We also appreciate our Partners in Education who attended. Last week was also Start with Hello Week and we had great participation throughout the week. The fall book fair was a huge success as well.

Next week, we will have an adjusted bell schedule on Thursday, October 3rd and Friday, October 4th, for the PM1 Algebra, Geometry, Science, and Civics Assessments. Please see the schedule in this edition of JIA.

Many students need support with math. Here are some strategies to help your middle school child with math:

• Encourage a growth mindset – the more students learn, their abilities and intelligence will change.

• Encourage problem solving – this doesn’t have to involve numbers; problem-solving helps develop thinking skills.

• Encourage the use of online resources – Khan Academy offers videos and the Orange County Public Library offers Brainfuse, live tutoring support.

We are planning on providing our students with an assembly on Friday, October 11th, about the realities of life outside of school vis-à-vis social media, exploitation and human trafficking. Paving the Way, an OCPS recognized organization will host these important discussions with our students. We would like to invite parents to an information session about Paving the Way on Tuesday, November 12th. If you are interested in attending this session, please fill out this interest form.

Finally, on October 11th, we will have our first school pep rally where we will unveil the Four Hangars (think Harry Potter). That same night, we are planning on hosting an end of quarter dance for our students.

Thank you for reading and please take any proper precautions as the weather changes this week.

Warm regards,

Jason Jiménez

Innovative Classroom Technology for Legacy Teachers

TeachFX

We are excited to share an innovative tool that only Legacy teachers now have access to enhance student learning and engagement in the classroom: TeachFX.

What is TeachFX?

TeachFX is an AI-powered platform designed to provide teachers with valuable insights into their instructional practices. By simply recording their lessons, teachers receive detailed feedback on their teaching methods, helping them to reflect and improve their approach. This tool is particularly focused on increasing student participation and engagement during class time.

How Does TeachFX Work?

  1. Recording Lessons:Teachers use TeachFX to record their classroom sessions. TeachFX is CIPA and COPPA compliant and was approved as a result of a software request to OCPS that Mr. Jiménez initiated.
  2. AI Analysis: The platform analyzes the audio to provide data on who is talking and for how long.
  3. Feedback Reports: Teachers receive comprehensive reports highlighting key metrics such as the balance of teacher vs. student talk time, the types of questions asked, and the level of student engagement.

Benefits for Students

  • Increased Engagement: Research shows that when students talk more in class, their engagement and understanding improve. TeachFX helps teachers create a more interactive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Personalized Learning: By reflecting on their teaching practices, teachers can tailor their instruction to better meet the needs of each student, fostering a more supportive and effective learning experience.

Why TeachFX?

Our goal is to empower teachers with the tools they need to continuously improve their teaching methods. TeachFX provides objective, non-evaluative feedback that helps teachers become more aware of their instructional practices and make data-informed decisions to enhance student outcomes.

We believe that by leveraging technology like TeachFX, we can create a more dynamic and engaging learning environment for our students. We are committed to supporting our teachers in their professional growth and ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s education.
