Lou Miller Awards take place Feb. 13

The Louis R. Miller Business Leadership Awards breakfast takes place on Wednesday, February 13 at the Hilton Garden Inn.

Legislation news that could

With the new year comes new rules and legislation small business owners should know.

1.) The minimum hourly wage in New York has increased. Learn more.
2.) The NYC Department of Labor releases newly revised rules regarding employee scheduling. Learn more.


3.) Governor Cuomo vetoes a bill that would have extended paid bereavement leave to 12 weeks. Learn more.


4.) New York City stores and food-service businesses can no longer offer, sell or possess single-use foam food containers. Learn more.


Call for Gala Committee Members

The Annual Gala is the longest-running Chamber program and one of Staten Island’s premier business and social events. With a different theme each year, this fun event celebrates the Chamber’s birthday/anniversary, and is the main fundraising event of the year. The guest list includes the Chamber’s Board of Directors and other leaders, business owners, executives, community leaders and elected officials.

Committee members will meet bi-weekly and are expected to assist in planning, promoting, and setting up for the event, as well as seeking sponsors, attendees, and raffle prizes.

NYCEDC Facilitates Over $130M in bonds for RUMCSI

The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) announced the Build NYC board approval of $132 million in tax-exempt bonds to help fuel the modernization of Richmond University Medical Center of Staten Island.

The project, which has received funding from the City, Borough President James Oddo, Council Members Debi Rose and Steven Matteo, and other local stakeholders, will include the addition of a 21st century emergency department and further positions the medical center to meet the growing health care needs of Staten Island residents.
