Financial Disclosures up Tuesday in House Committee
Overview
CS/HB 37 (Roach) would require all municipal mayors, city commissioners, elected members of a municipal governing body, and all municipal and county managers to file an annual Full Disclosure of Financial Interests (Form 6) with the Florida Commission on Ethics. These individuals are currently required to file only a Limited Disclosure of Financial Interests (Form 1).

The League is seeking an amendment to the bill that would apply this requirement to new terms of office that begin after January 1, 2024 for elected municipal officials.

In Florida, county commissioners, county constitutional officers, state lawmakers and other state officials are currently required to file Form 6.

CS/HB 37 will be considered by the House State Affairs Committee on Tuesday, April 11 at 2:00 pm (EST).

An amendment has been filed (PCS for CS/HB 37) that would align the bill with the Senate companion, CS/CS/SB 774 (Brodeur). This includes removing the Form 6 requirement for city and county managers.
Actions Needed:
  1. If you have concerns with this bill, as a city official, it is imperative you contact your legislators and share why you oppose this bill.
  2. Support FLC’s ask to not change the disclosure requirements for municipal officials mid-term.
