OHIO BUSINESSES LEFT WITHOUT CORONAVIRUS LEGAL PROTECTIONS AS LEGISLATURE BREAKS FOR SUMMER
Two months ago the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, on behalf of six statewide business organizations, provided testimony to the Ohio House’s 2020 Economic Recovery Task Force. In our remarks, we highlighted the importance of providing Ohio businesses with legal protections from coronavirus exposure lawsuits and stated how employers need legislative action “quickly and decisively or any other efforts may be in vain.”

OHIO SENATE INTRODUCES LEGISLATION TO STOP LAWSUIT ABUSE
Last week, legislation was introduced in the Ohio Senate that will stop Ohio’s courts from turning into lottery tickets for institutional investors seeking to beat the rate of return provided by the stock market.

OCCPAC, MAJOR BUSINESS GROUPS ENDORSE KENNEDY, FRENCH FOR OHIO SUPREME COURT

On June 11, the Ohio Chamber of Commerce PAC announced its endorsement of Justices Sharon Kennedy and Judi French for reelection to the Ohio Supreme Court.

OHIO CHAMBER PROVIDES TESTIMONY ON UNEMPLOYMENT RESOLUTION

As part of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce’s continued efforts to enact meaningful unemployment compensation reforms, Kevin Shimp provided interested party testimony on Senate Joint Resolution (SJR 4) in front of the Ohio Senate Finance Committee on June 9.

OHIO CHAMBER OPPOSES LEGISLATION TO PUT OBAMACARE INTO OHIO REVISED CODE

On June 9, the Ohio Chamber told the members of the House Insurance Committee that they shouldn’t put into state law the major insurance reform provisions of the federal Affordable Care Act (ACA).

STATE REVENUE CONTINUES TO MISS ESTIMATES

Last Monday, Ohio’s Office of Budget and Management (OBM) released preliminary data on general revenue fund (GRF) receipts for the month of May, the eleventh month of the current fiscal year.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPDATE

The Ohio House is on summer recess as it has no legislative sessions scheduled for July or August. Their next scheduled legislative session is scheduled for September 15-17 and 22-24 (if needed).

The Ohio Senate has scheduled legislative session on June 23 and 24 (if needed) July 21 and 22 (if needed) as well as August 18 and 19 (if needed). In September, legislative sessions are scheduled for September 17 (if needed), September 22 (if needed) and September 23.
