Commercial Emails Must Be Accurate,

Rules Washington Supreme Court

Courtesy of the Washington Retail Association

The Washington Supreme Court has affirmed that commercial emails sent to or from Washington must not include false or misleading information in their subject lines, reinforcing the state’s Commercial Electronic Mail Act (CEMA).

In a recent decision, the court determined that subject lines implying time-limited promotions, such as those stating a deal ends “today only” when the offer actually continues, can be considered deceptive and in violation of the law. However, the court also clarified that general marketing “puffery,” such as phrases like “biggest sale ever,” is not subject to the same standard.

Key takeaway for retailers:

Businesses sending commercial emails must ensure that subject lines accurately represent the nature and timing of the promotion. While enthusiastic or exaggerated language is allowed, factual claims must be truthful. Retailers should audit their email marketing practices to ensure compliance and avoid potential legal challenges.

West Sound Tech Secures $42 Million in State Funding to Finish Modernization Project

Published in the Kitsap Sun, April 29, 2025

Photo: Meegan M. Reid/Kitsap Sun

Bremerton's West Sound Technical Skills Center will be moving forward with its two-phased improvement and modernization project after securing $42 million in state funding during the 2025-27 biennium.

Plans for completing the project remained in a state of limbo for the past several months after preliminary state budget totals featured no funding for West Sound Tech, which offers advanced career and technical programming for students ages 16-21 (grades 11-12) representing 10 school districts across Kitsap, Mason, Pierce and Jefferson counties.

It took a late lobbying push to sway the minds of lawmakers, who passed a $77.8 billion budget Sunday.

"We went from zero to 42 million," WST Director Ryan Nickels said. "It's going to get us where we need to be."

Jesus Christ Superstar

Final Weekend!

Jesus Christ Superstar by Tim Rice & Andrew Lloyd Webber

In Jesus Christ Superstar, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber take the last week of Jesus Christ's life and transform it into a rock opera spectacle. Seen through the eyes of Judas Iscariot, the musical delves into the personal and political turmoil surrounding Jesus, blending rock with gospel, folk, and funk. With iconic songs like "Superstar" and "I Don't Know How to Love Him," the show captures the tension, fame, and ultimate betrayal that define this timeless story. It's a bold, energetic, and thought-provoking portrayal of one of history's most famous figures, wrapped in a dazzling musical package.

Content Advisory: The musical features contemporary and sometimes provocative language, but no strong or offensive language, . It deals with themes of betrayal, sacrifice, and political unrest, all presented in a dramatic and musical context; some dark humor and irony, particularly in the portrayal of certain characters and situations; includes religious and supernatural themes, focusing on the life and crucifixion of Jesus Christ; mature themes related to betrayal, death, and sacrifice, but they are handled within the context of the story; some depiction of violence, particularly related to a suicide and the crucifixion. Some suggestive situations and innuendos, particularly involving Mary Magdalene, but nothing explicit.
