Standing Up for Students: Powerful Testimony on Senator Henson's Anti-Doxing Bill (SB889)
Legislative Update: Progress in the 2025 Session
|
Nine weeks into the legislative session, Senator Shaneka Henson has been advancing her agenda with 21 bills focused on childcare and education, housing, environmental protection, criminal justice reform, and women’s health. With Cross-Over Day approaching on March 17th—the deadline for bills to move to the other chamber—progress is well underway.
Senator Henson’s bill SB513 to remove outdated, discriminatory language from property records has passed the Senate and moved to the House. This week, three of her bills are on Second Reader: SB888 creating an exemption to allow for the establishment of a public charter school at the Annapolis Mall, SB722 expanding environmental restoration projects, and SB581 allowing compensation for families who lose a pet due to negligence.
Additionally, her final bill hearings are happening this week:
Tuesday, March 4
-
SB858 Keeping public transit safe from repeat violent offenders
-
SB751 Strengthening support networks in assisted living facilities
-
SB721 Expanding protections for survivors of domestic violence
Wednesday, March 5
-
SB868 Building a stronger substitute pool for childcare providers
-
SB506 Allowing schools to reinvest Medicaid reimbursements into student health services
-
SB857 Improving Pre-K access and creating a childcare expansion workgroup
Friday, March 7
-
SB583 Expanding scholarship eligibility for real estate appraisers
Senator Henson continues refining bills with stakeholders. One of the most impactful moments was the emotional hearing for SB889 protecting students from doxing, where students shared powerful testimonies about being targeted online for their race, ethnicity, and beliefs.
As the session moves forward, Senator Henson remains committed to getting these bills across the finish line. Constituents can track legislation, provide testimony, and stay updated by signing up for her newsletter.
