A political action committee supporting the University of California
Greetings,
Over the past two weeks, the Los Angeles community has come together in remarkable ways, by building and strengthening aid and community care networks to support those in need. Among the key contributors to this effort is the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
UCLA has generously provided space at the UCLA Research Park to host a disaster recovery center in partnership with FEMA, as well as local and state agencies. This center serves as a critical hub, offering essential resources and support to residents affected by the devastating fires.
For decades, UC campuses have also been at the forefront of research on fire mitigation, wildfire technology, and climate change disaster response. The expertise and dedication of UC scholars have proven invaluable in understanding and addressing these crises. Today, their work not only advances knowledge, but also directly supports students, staff, and the wider community in this time of profound loss and recovery. If you would like to connect with a UC research expert, please let us know. Here is a link to articles, research, and resources.
We are beyond grateful for the contributions of everyone involved—from researchers and responders to elected leaders and the countless volunteers and donors who remind us of the power of collective action. Together, we continue to demonstrate the resilience and compassion that define community.
Fiat Lux,
Bettina Duval, Michael Kahn, Jim Koshland, Rich Leib, & Cathy Unger
