Legislature Working Hard for Illegals, Speed Cameras on I-25, Choo-Choo Train Tax, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.

  • A bill in the Colorado Legislature would allow local governments to use existing tax revenue to build low-income, “affordable” housing. Everything is affordable if someone else pays for it.

  • Another bill making its way through the legislature would allow cities in Colorado to install speed cameras on I-25, including through Colorado Springs. It’s difficult to see this not passing, as it is an easy way for governments to take more and more from you, forever. Plus, we are the ones who pay to have this installed.

  • The legislature is also planning to meddle in the homeowners’ insurance market in Colorado. Surely massive government intervention can get the cost of coverage down, right? Right?

  • But wait, there’s more! The legislature also wants to regulate social media in the state.

  • Democrats in the legislature have put forth a slew of bills to protect illegal aliens from federal immigration authorities. Making masks illegal for ICE agents, protecting illegals in detention facilities, and allowing people to sue ICE agents are all on the wish list this year.

  • The wolf importation program in Colorado has succeeded in killing another wolf this week. We’ve honestly lost count of how many wolves have died in service to this program. Additionally, claims of damage from ranchers have reached $1 million so far.

  • Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold is ignoring a request from the Department of Justice to provide comprehensive information on Colorado voter rolls. Griswold continues to insist that our elections are “state of the art”. If that were true, wouldn’t she be proud to demonstrate that to the Department of Justice?

  • Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser has once again done what he does best: he’s filed another lawsuit against the Trump Administration. This time, he’s suing the administration over its declaration of an “energy emergency”.

  • Mountain Metropolitan Transit in Colorado Springs is proposing numerous changes to bus service in the city. They would like citizen feedback on their ideas.

  • The recall effort against Colorado Springs City Councilmember Tom Bailey has failed. Organizers failed to gather the required number of signatures to put the recall of Councilman Bailey to a vote, and they now have an additional 30 days to gather the required signatures.

  • In Colorado Springs, the Downtown Clean and Safe Program has gotten a $700,000 taxpayer funded boost. Mayor Yemi Mobolade says the program can be expanded to other areas of the city. We think it will need to be expanded when the vagrants are pushed to areas outside of the downtown.

  • Wyoming is offering exactly zero financial incentives for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association to move to their state from Colorado Springs. This could potentially scuttle the move.

  • Republican gubernatorial candidates in Colorado are not raising nearly as much money as Democratic gubernatorial candidates. Here is where the early funding race stands, as well as a short candidate survey.

  • Would you vote yourself a tax increase to fund a passenger rail line running between Fort Collins and Pueblo? You may get to cast a vote on this. The Polis dream of a choo-choo train won’t fund itself.

  • Remember the apartment building in Aurora that was taken over by a violent, illegal alien Venezuelan prison gang? Our friends at the Independence Institute recorded an interview with a woman who lived in that building and survived to talk about it.

  • Colorado’s Medicaid program overpaid medical transportation providers in the state. Current estimates show tens of millions of dollars in overpayments. Once again, the taxpayer-funded bureaucracy set up in Colorado fails at your expense.

  • The Public Utilities Commission of Colorado is now working to establish rules for planned power outages. This move comes after Xcel Energy shut off power to 50,000 customers for days because it was windy.

  • What kept you warm during the recent cold snap? It wasn’t the fantasy of wind and solar energy. It was conventional, plentiful, and less expensive coal and natural gas-produced energy. Wind and solar will always fail in the real world.

  • Buc-ee’s has officially withdrawn its application to build a facility in Palmer Lake. Lamar, Colorado, is interested in a Buc-ee’s location, but so far, Buc-ee’s has not pursued this option.

  • One Pueblo city councilmember is talking about bringing regulated gambling to the city. He thinks this could boost tourism and revenue for the Steel City.

  • El Paso County Commissioners have approved a $24 million road improvement plan for 2026.

  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each.
