General Assembly Wrap on June 30
We are now in the 59th second of the 59th minute of the 11th hour before the General Assembly wraps up its policy work for the year. Here is what we know:
- The Unfair and Deceptive Business Practices Act was amended in ways to accomplish the bill author’s intent and provide legal certainty for businesses.
- A Site Readiness fund is being created to further the expansion of business development.
- Clean Water legislation passed – a long-time State Chamber priority.
- In the area of workforce training and development, an expanded SEED program has already passed, and we're hopeful the FAST Act and Elevate Delaware will see similar action before the end of session as well.
Discussion will continue next year on many proposals of interest to State Chamber members:
- Paid Family and Medical Leave
- Recreational marijuana
- Tax policy
- Infrastructure investments
In the coming months, State Chamber members can help policymakers better understand the implications of proposals by hosting them in person or virtually for visits. We’ll help make all the arrangements if you are willing to participate. Now that the Census is finished, the General Assembly is likely to return in the fall to address the drawing of new House and Senate district boundaries.
