LHS News
Welcome back to school students, parents and community! This has been an exciting summer for us as we see more and more of our school being rebuilt. Our teachers have been so excited to start this new year and they believe that Lehi High School is the best place for your students to be educated.  It was awesome to see the students come back to school and see their excitement about our construction and knowing that we are opening a new gym facility and auditorium this school year.
 FLEX TIME
Need more time with your teacher?  Tuesday-Friday Lehi High School has a period of instruction called “Flex”.  After 3 rd period from 11:55-12:20, all students have more personalized access to their teachers where they can receive instruction, work on assignments, and check grades.  Flex is for ALL students and we highly encourage students to attend. Teachers can ask students to come in and parents can work with teachers and their students to participate.

Driver's Education
Starting this year, all students taking drivers education through Alpine School District will be required to attend a Zero Fatalities presentation with a parent. These presentation will be offered throughout the state and you can attend at any school. Visit  https://zerofatalitiesut.com  to see what dates are offered at each school. This is a state run program and necessary to attend with a parent to obtain a drivers license. See attached flyer for details.
Student Council
School Supply Drive
September 3-6th
Students will donate supplies and get points based on the school supply they donate. For example, a pencil will be one point and a backpack will be 50 points. The class with the most points will win free pizza during lunch time. Tuesday through Friday, the announcements will include which class has the most points. The week following the School Supply Drive, student council will divide the supplies evenly between the seven elementary schools. The Principals and teachers will be responsible to distribute the supplies.
Supply List
Pencils 1 pt , Erasers 5 pts, Glue Sticks 5 pts, Crayons 10 pts, Colored Pencils 10 pts, Pencil Box 15 pts,
Empty Backpack 20 pts, A FULL backpack would include: 1 Backpack, 1 Box of Crayons,1 Box of Colored Pencils,1 Pencil Box, 2 Erasers, 2 Glue Sticks, 3 Pencils. Worth a Total of 100 pts
Why are we planning this specific event?
To ensure that all the children at elementary schools feeding into Lehi High School have a successful educational experience and avoid the humiliation of not having school supplies.
What will make it a success?
Free Press has offered to write a story on the event and we will be advertising in the elementary schools. Mr Averett’s email and phone number will be put in the article as the contact in case people have questions or want to help.
Who will make it happen? Jobs?
As students bring supplies, they will each be greeted by 2 student council members who will have a sheet to fill out the student's name and number of items they bring.
Student council members will be expected at the office from:
Monday- Friday           7:15-7:35 AM
Flex (Tuesday-Friday)     12:00-12:20 PM

Keeping Teens Safe Online
Sponsored by School Community Council
In Jean M. Twenge’s book, " iGen: Why Today's Super-Connected Kids Are Growing Up Less Rebellious, More Tolerant, Less Happy--and Completely Unprepared for Adulthood--and What That Means for the Rest of Us, " she analyzes data from 4 national studies conducted since the 1960’s. She uses this data to compare today’s generation of young adults and teenagers to previous generations. She concludes, "iGen is distinct from every previous generation in how its members spend their time, how they behave, and their attitudes toward religion, sexuality, and politics. They socialize in completely new ways, reject once sacred social taboos, and want different things from their lives and careers.”

Twenge explores how the introduction of smartphones has affected this generation. She discusses the trends and how these trends are shaping our society in many different areas. This book is very informative for anyone who has teenagers or young adults or works with them .

Suicide Prevention
September is suicide prevention month. In conjunction, UVU is hosting a suicide prevention conference on October 4th, and interested parents are invited to attend. Please see the attached flyer for additional details.
The SafeUT Crisis Chat and Tip Line is a statewide service that provides real-time crisis intervention to youth through live chat and a confidential tip program – right from your smartphone. https://healthcare.utah.edu/uni/safe-ut/

Earning a CTE Pathway can lead to higher paying jobs directly out of High School due to experience earned in class. Internship is one of many CTE classes offered at Lehi High School, which will give the student direct work experience. CTE is a great way to get a jump start on a future career!
If you know of a student interested in earning a CTE Pathway (link below), please talk with the CTE Specialist Teri Drew in room 154 (ext. 154) or to his/her counselor.
