Simple Machine 2013
One side of PortSide's Simple Machine Machine

PortSide's "Simple Machine Machine" expo is going back to school!  Can you help set up and/or run our expo at PS 676?

The machine - a universal gym set of maritime levers, inclines, wheels, screws, and pulleys designed and constructed by dockbuilder Paul Amico - will be set up at our partner school PS 676 in Red Hook to demonstrate the wonders of simple physics in a maritime context.

Date: Tues, 1/22/19,  1:00-9:00pm
Event is at PS 676 at 27 Huntington Street in Red Hook
1:00pm load out at MARY A. WHALEN
1:30-3:00pm installation of our expo
3:00-5:00pm we offer after-school program to students
5:00-6:00pm break
6:00-8:00pm we offer program to parents and students for "Family Night"

We could use your help setting this up and then guiding the kid's exploration. We guarantee this will be a rewarding experience. Check out the kids enjoying this in a video of this installation at PS29 a few years ago.

If you can help out any (or all?!) of the time please let us know at Chiclet@portsidenwyork.org

In addition, to the machine itself, we will turn turning the classroom into an maritime immersion experience with props, banners and projections.

And that's not all, we will also represent our African-American Maritime Heritage program by bringing books and an exhibit panel, and talking about our annual AfAm maritime history challenge.

Hope you can join us.

Thanks!
