Mark 15:37:

“And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed his last.”

Day 45
Good Friday
I know it has never made sense to me to call today Good Friday. Chances are it doesn’t make any sense to you. You can do the research for yourself, but I don’t find it satisfying. The cynic in me says we ended up with Good Friday because Black Friday was already taken, because, hey, nothing beats a good sale and the day after Thanksgiving is supposed to be good for that.

And I guess we should be thankful that we get such a good deal. All of our sins are forgiven.

I read once that what is good about today isn’t what happens to Jesus, it’s what happens to us. We are loved. The fact that such love came at such a high price reminds us that grace is free, not cheap, but it’s a heavenly deal for sure.

Prayer: Heavenly God, thank you for making your love for us so earthly and so real we can count on it even when life is dark. Amen.
