Journey through Lent 2018 at St. Anthony's
REFLECTIONS FROM THE PEWS
Monday - Fifth Week of Lent
March 19, 2018

The reading of Matthew 1:16, 18-21, 24a, we can imagine the emotions Joseph felt when given the news Mary, his future wife, was pregnant. He must have been shocked, angry, and hurt.

Despite this, Joseph remained calm and level headed. Joseph showed compassion and was concerned about Mary’s welfare and reputation.  He wanted to protect her from ridicule and perhaps death.  Punishment for adultery was stoning.

Joseph is the perfect role model for us because he was of the highest character. He was faithful and submissive to the will of God who told him, “Do not be afraid“ and accept Mary into your home. Joseph was the protector of Mary, our holy Mother, and Jesus, the Son of God, our Lord and Savior.  Though Joseph’s caring and love for his Holy Family, he shows us how to love our families in our daily lives.
