Dear Trinity Episcopal Church,

As I shared during our Annual Meeting, clergy in the Episcopal Church are entitled to a sabbatical every seven years. I last went on sabbatical in 2019, and the Vestry of Trinity Church and the Diocese of Texas have graciously approved my sabbatical for this summer. In short, I will be away from my regular ministry for three months as a time to study, rest, and reconnect with my family.

My primary focus of this sabbatical will be the completion of my Master of Sacred Theology degree at Sewanee. I will be taking my last two classes this summer and doing the research and writing needed for my thesis. This particular thesis will be a history of the Diocese of Texas during the episcopate of Bishop J. Milton Richardson (1965 to 1980).

My first day away will be Friday, May 1. I will spend much of May researching and spending time at the archives of the Episcopal Church in Austin. I'll be at Sewanee in June, and then enjoy some family vacation in July. I'll be back at Trinity on Sunday, August 2.

I know what a privilege it is to receive a sabbatical, and I am profoundly grateful to all of you for your support. I am also thankful to Chase, our curate, and for his pastoral presence here at Trinity in my absence.

With grace,

Jimmy

United Thank Offering

Ongoing through Palm Sunday

This Lent our congregation is exploring gratitude and reciprocity with the United Thank Offering. We have a Lenten calendar and resources for families to use during Lent to focus a bit of time each day reflecting on those things for which we are grateful and how we can add to the goodness they bring into the world around us. Resources (including the blue boxes) are available in the Narthex for those that would like to use them at home on their own. The inspiration for UTO materials this year are from the book The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World by Robin Wall Kimmerer.
