Nature can teach us so much.
The seasons give us hope for renewal. And God’s creatures, if we take time to appreciate them, also demonstrate hope. For example:
Egret lives into each moment as
though it were a precious hour.
Waiting is his art form, and
he does it well.
Wings at rest, graceful and vigilant—
he resides in a sacred space,
gleaming and transcendent.
Silent as a soundless song, more
mysterious than a mystical vision
long before it closes—he leans
into beauty, attentive and wise.
One time he is hope; another time,
he is patience.
But, wherever he waits—in place—
or even in my mind or heart,
I am never alone—
when I wait.
