Through the darkness of the past year
The pandemic, the politics, the oppression of voices
The isolation from those we love
The constant barrage of bad news, upsetting news, it doesn’t stop
But do we?
Do we stop the belief that voices will be heard?
Do we stop the belief that science will prevail?
Do we stop the belief that one day politicians will serve their people?
We don’t stop, we didn’t stop, we carried on in hope and faith
When we were told we had to lock down
Did we lock down our hearts?
We applauded and lauded love and gratitude
We collected food and essentials
We raised our collective voices to be heard
We served where we could, how we could
We gardened, we grew, we prayed
We opened to a new way of being
We didn’t stop.
In this time of Lent don’t stop
Believe in the salvation of prayer
Always have hope
