I’ve reached a part of the trail in my hiking today where I can’t really see what’s around the corner. I can’t help but look at the corner and realize this how many of us are feeling during this very unprecedented time in our lives. We don’t know what’s around the corner or our future and that can be scary. But I also recognize that I have a choice. Rather than fearing the unknown I can practice being mindful. Rather than trying to project out into the future, I can focus on one day at a time, one breath at a time.

“Realize deeply that the present moment is all that
you ever have. Make the Now the primary focus
of your life.” Eckhart Tolle
In a culture of instant gratification, patience seems to be nonexistent but allowing time for things to unfold is exactly what’s being asked of us right now. For many of us not knowing can be challenging and can feel like we are standing on shifting sand rather than solid ground.

Choosing to live in the moment doesn’t mean we aren’t aware of current events, it means that in spite of the current events we can still live a life of harmony, peace and even joy. It’s about living from the heart, appreciating what each moment brings and being conscious of what we create in each moment with our thoughts and actions. Not knowing what’s around the corner doesn’t have to be unpleasant when we can appreciate even the simplest of things: a pleasant conversation with a friend, completing an art project, being in the garden or being in nature.

No amount of guilt can change the past
No amount of anxiety can change the future
I cannot control the outside world but what I have control over is how I think, how I react, what I say and the action I take . The only thing I have control over is “me, myself and I.”
