About the Program

The Lessons in Bankruptcy: We’ve Been Here Before CLE is intended to be a comparison between previous periods in history where Bankruptcy filings were at an all-time high (i.e. right after a recession hits) and current times. The goal is to point out common trends that appeared in the past before a bankruptcy boom and analyze whether those same trends are showing today. Because the more trends that are present, the more likely it is the economy is heading towards either another recession or bankruptcy boom. The most notable periods that we will be analyzing are the early 1990s recession, the Dot-Com Bubble burst in the early 2000s, and the great recession of 2007/2008. We will look at the trends during those years and compare them to what we see now. We will use such factors as Inflation rates, GDP, unemployment rates, and natural/social disasters to guide our discussion because all of these components help predict financial difficulties in the economy.

This program is presented by the Bankruptcy section chaired by Erick Diaz. Find out more about the section at www.bhba.org.
