How the seminars work

  1. We use Zoom as our platform. Everyone gets an invite that works for all sessions.
  2. Sessions are recorded and can be downloaded so you can access them anytime. Some students rarely, (or even never!) come to the live class because of schedule conflicts. In that case you can always email me with questions to be addressed in live session.
  3. The class format is lecture rather than open-ended discussion. But I encourage questions and discussion when it's helpful. We are a relaxed and friendly community of people with common interests.
  4. All texts are provided as PDF files linked in the syllabus. I encourage everyone to buy the books, either hard copy or digital, but for those with limited means this is a nice option and sometimes it's the only way to make the readings available.
  5. We meet once a week for 2 hours for 8 weeks.
  6. The tuition is $300US (plus a 3% charge for Paypal transfer fees) for the entire seminar, but see #7.
  7. There are always "scholarships" available. I do not turn anyone away. If you can't afford the full tuition, let me know and I can accommodate you.
  8. TO REGISTER: All you have to do is email me at tcheetham@gmail.com to let me know you want to enroll. Registration is always open. Decide at the last minute!
  9. PAYMENT: Paypal is easiest and it helps me with bookkeeping but many other options are available. Full or partial payment is due anytime before classes begin.
  10. If you have ANY questions please contact me.

#2
ON BEAUTY

My intent is to take seriously the cosmologies of beauty sketched by Henry Corbin and James Hillman as "tools for conviviality" and as hints of what possible human futures are possible. This is not a seminar in "aesthetics" though that is a subset of what we will explore. All of our readings aim to provide a shock to the systems of modernity that have wrought so much destruction to human health and to the earth. We must change our lives.

Perpetually under construction...
